Gravel roads make up more than two-thirds of Namibia’s roads. We suggest renting a 4×4. Since Windhoek, where most rental car companies are located, is 45 kilometers west of Hosea Kutako International Airport, you will need to make arrangements with your rental car company for a transfer from the airport to Windhoek. Alternatively, please contact us, and we will arrange for you to rent a car and move. Rates are available upon request.
Your personal English-speaking Guide for the next 6 days will meet you at the accommodation establishment where you spent the previous night. Before you board the safari bus, he or she will greet you and assist you with your luggage. After that, you go on a short sightseeing tour of the Capital.
Stately historic buildings constructed in the German architectural style of the turn of the century add a lot to Windhoek. The Tintenpalast and the Christuskirche can be visited, and along Independence Avenue, old colonial houses sit alongside new, post-independence Namibian structures.
Following that, you embark on the first leg of your journey through Namibia’s amazing deserts. Driving south through Rehoboth and Kalkrand, you reach the Kalahari Desert’s breathtaking dune landscape. The Kalahari Desert covers a large portion of Namibia’s eastern coast. It is classified as a Desert because of its sandy terrain, which prevents adequate water absorption into the soil, and because of the extremely high evaporation in this region. In fact, it’s a bustling wilderness, with antelopes and other animals frequenting the dry valleys, seasonally flooded pans, and vast swaths of excellent grazing that result from good rains.
Following your arrival, check-in, and some time to relax, you’ll go on a late afternoon Game Drive, which is included in your package. Take off before sunset to enjoy a panoramic view of the Kalahari Region while sipping a cold beverage and watching the sun set in the west.
Dinner, a night’s stay, and breakfast
As the sun rises over the dunes and the wildlife, birds, and insects slowly awaken, get up early and take a Sunrise Game Drive to explore the secrets of the desert. When you return to the cabin, breakfast is served, and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure. Another evening Sundowner Game Drive is available for those who wish to participate (optional, not included.) All booking arrangements will be happily assisted by your Guide.
Dinner, a night’s stay, and breakfast
Breakfast will set the tone for today’s journey into the Namib Desert, which is vast and diverse. In the early afternoon, you arrive at your breathtaking destination in the Namib Naukluft Park region via Mariental, Maltahöhe, and Sesriem.
The Namib, which is thought to be the world’s oldest desert, was arid at least 80 million years ago. It crosses the Orange River into South Africa in the south, and the Kunene River into Angola in the north. The Namib is mostly found in Namibia, where it covers 1500 kilometers of Atlantic coastline. Its width ranges between 80 and 140 kilometers, but it can stretch up to 200 kilometers inland in some areas. The Namib sand dunes, which reach heights of 300 meters and stretch for 32 kilometers (20 miles), are the world’s second highest.
Evening sundowners while watching the spectacular Namibian desert sunset will surely be unforgettable, as you wonder at the endless deserts stretching out in front of you.
Dinner, a night’s stay, and breakfast
You’ll get up early this morning for coffee/tea before setting off on your pre-dawn journey across Sossusvlei’s sand shore. Today you have the chance to scale one of the world’s tallest sand dunes.
Sossusvlei is a stunning dune wonderland with 300-meter-high dunes surrounding a massive, dried-up pan. Their rich tints range from pale apricot to bright reds and oranges, extending as far as the eye can see. The Tsauchab River flows into the pan during a successful rainy season, creating a refuge for birds. Oryx, Springbok, and Ostrich can be seen feeding on the sparse vegetation along the watercourse even during the dry season.
The Sesriem Canyon, located at the entrance to Sossusvlei, has been carved out by centuries of erosion into a narrow gorge measuring 1 km in length. Deep pools of water can be found at the bottom of the gorge, which drops 30m to 40m and is replenished after good rains. The name Sesriem comes from the time when early settlers drew water from these ponds by tying six lengths of rawhide thongs together.
Return to the lodge in the early afternoon, and spend the rest of the day as you wish.
Dinner, a night’s stay, and breakfast
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before continuing your journey to Namibia’s west coast through the Namib Naukluft Park. You’ll pass through Solitaire and Walvis Bay on your way there.
Solitaire refers to a single solitaire diamond, while solitude or loneliness refers to the area’s solitude or loneliness, and the two meanings combined establish the impression of a unique, valuable, and solitary location. A gas station, post office, store, and restaurant are all located in this small village, which is well-known for its delicious apple pie. It’s the ideal place to stop on your way between Sesreim and Sossusvlei, and Swakopmund or Windhoek.
Walvis Bay is Namibia’s main harbor area, and it’s quickly becoming a sought-after destination for beach vacations. The lagoon, with its abundant bird life, is one of the main attractions, with an estimated 80 000 wading birds, including flamingos and rare white pelicans, to be seen. Walvis Bay and the offshore islands were integrated into the Republic of Namibia on March 1, 1994, after becoming a former South African enclave. The town has a well-developed and productive port, and its fishing harbour serves as the center of Namibia’s rapidly expanding fishing industry.
After travelling along the path that runs directly between the Namib’s towering sand dunes and the Benguela current that runs along Namibia’s coastline, we arrive in Swakopmund in the afternoon. After a dusty day on sandy roads and rocky mountain passes, check into your hotel where you will be greeted warmly and able to relax in cool comfort. Following that, you have the choice of taking an optional city tour or exploring this charming and lovely town on foot at your leisure.
Breakfast and Overnight
Relax and enjoy a day at your leisure. A Catamaran cruise in the Walvis Bay lagoon with oysters and sparkling wine served on board, the popular ‘Living Desert tour,’ or a Quad Bike excursion into the dunes are just a few of the activities available in Swakopmund. Visit the Crystal Gallery to see some of the world’s largest crystals, or go on a guided Fatbike Tour through town or into the dunes.
Dinner can be had at any of Swakopmund’s well-known and famous restaurants throughout the evening.
Swakopmund is much loved by Namibians as a welcome respite from the inland heat. It is also popular amongst visitors for its old-world charm and relaxed atmosphere. Founded in 1892 during the period of German colonial rule, it served as the territory’s main harbour for many years. The distinct German colonial character has been well preserved and today many of the old buildings serve a useful purpose. The Woermann House (1905) now houses an art gallery and the Woermann Tower was used in earlier times to watch ships entering the harbour. Other old interesting buildings include „Die Alte Kaserne“, the „Hohenzollern Haus” and the Railway Station Building.
The road connecting Walvis Bay and Swakopmund is a fascinating contrast, with the Namib Desert’s towering yellow sand dunes on one side and the sea and the freezing Benguela Current on the other. Early morning mists that blanket the dunes and beaches are almost as eerie as the windblown sands that float over the dune ridges in the late afternoon, propelled by on-shore winds.
As the last day of your safari comes to a close, scale the sand dunes to see the sun fall over the ocean, which is always tinged with dazzling hues of red and orange and seems to go on forever. After dinner, you say your goodbyes to your Tour Guide.
Breakfast and Overnight
Following breakfast, you will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of options: If you prefer to stay in Swakopmund, accommodation bookings are not included; however, we will gladly assist you with this on request and at your own expense. (Prices available upon request.)
On Day 7, travelers departing Namibia board an early morning transfer to the airport, passing through the towns of Usakos, Karibib, Okahandja, and Windhoek en route to the Hosea Kutako International Airport or their Windhoek accommodations.
You have the option of continuing your safari into Namibia’s Northern Regions. Your tour will depart after breakfast in Swakopmund, where you will be joined by other guests who have booked the Northern Tour. (For a complete itinerary, see the Beautiful Contrasts Never-ending Landscapes Tour.)
We wish you safe travels for the future.

Questions?
Many people don’t see the point in driving through a bushveld looking for animals, but there’s so much more to it. wild animals are seen as a nuisance in most inhabited areas, but if you’ve never seen the magic of animals in their natural habitat, untouched by humans, you’ve been missing out! looking at zoo animals in their enclosures might be considered nice, because you’re almost 100% guaranteed that you’ll see them, but that’s not how they behave in the wild. nothing beats the thrill of finding a pride of lions laying in the shade, or walking across the road right in front of you, and once you’ve felt the reverberations of an elephant’s trumpet through your bones, you’ll be hooked! our clients often come back for more, because you never know what you’re going to see next…
Every single one of our guides have a passion for the kruger park. we love waking up every morning and meeting new people, never mind sharing our love for the bushveld with them. we are highly experienced and have heaps of knowledge about the fauna and flora in the knp at our clients’ disposal. one of our best characteristics must be that we focus on small groups to give each safari trip the best chance of seeing the best sights that the knp has to offer. our safaris depart any day of the week to suit our clients’ busy schedules and will accommodate all your needs as best we can. visit our website for more information on our company…
We operate from hazyview and will collect you from any of the lovely holiday resorts, lodges or nearby locations. our vehicles depart at different times in different seasons… for full day or morning safaris, we leave at 5am in october to march and at 5h30am in april to september. for afternoon safaris, we leave at 13h00 pm in the afternoons. most of the wildlife in the park prefers hiding in the shade during the hot afternoons, so we highly recommend joining us for the earlier safaris to get the most out of your trip.
Anything to do with the word “game” whilst on a safari—like game drives or looking for game—all refers to wild animals in safari context. you might also encounter “game” on the menus of some traditional restaurants, which basically means that you’re ordering wild buck meat, or even warthog.
Even though the knp falls in a malaria area, most foreigners are pleasantly surprised at how few mosquitoes are actually encountered whilst on a safari. these mosquitoes breed in water, and even in the middle of our rainy season in december, we don’t consider them to be a relentless menace. despite what you might have been told, mosquitoes are not a plague in the knp and although we are always cautious about malaria, the locals in and around the knp do not run around with repellents all the time.
If you’re really worried and consider yourself or anyone joining you on the safari to be particularly susceptible to this rare disease, be sure to consult your gp. there are many places in the park where you can buy mosquito repellent containing deet—this is the most vital ingredient in insect repellents as it has been proven to repel the malaria-carrying mosquitoes effectively.
Even though the kruger park is basically a giant protected bushveld and sparsely populated, there are many little “towns” and camps where you can find anything from grocery stores, souvenir stores, petrol stations and much more.
As mentioned before, there are many places in the knp where we can stop over for lunch where you can buy take-away food or choose to have a meal at the various restaurants. we usually have lunch at skukuza, but this is not set in stone.
Two words: comfortable and practical. seeing as you’re going to be driving around for the majority of the time on your safari experience, it is advisable that you wear clothes that are not too tight and not too hot. winters can be cold, so check the forecast beforehand, but summers are the opposite—just take a jacket with you in case it gets chilly, and stay away from high heels, ladies! we might stop on top of rocky mountains to give you an in-person taste of the spectacular views in the knp. trust me, it’s spine-chilling raw beauty.
You’ll be surprised at the true meaning of this term—it actually refers to the five most feared animals in the bush. they are extremely dangerous to hunt on foot and also rather rare. the big 5 consists of african lions, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. it really is a tourist attraction and many safari companies utilise this term as a major marketing strategy.
We cannot guarantee that there will be sightings of all five animals in the big 5, but we can guarantee that we will do our best to find them. elephants are massive, this is true, but in the lush untouched bushveld of the kruger, if they don’t want to be seen, they can easily disappear behind the trees mere meters away from you. they tend not to be too shy, unlike leopards. rhinos are extremely scarce, but our guides know where their usual grazing spots are, and a pride of lions would attract so much attention that our radios would notify us if there’s a sighting nearby. nevertheless, you are guaranteed to see a very diverse variety of animals in the kruger national park.
Children under 8 are more than welcome on privately hired open vehicles, yes. this is purely out of consideration for our other clients who do not have children and might not have the patience for their unique outlook and excitement about each wild animal we encounter. all children under 12 have discounted safari rates, as well as half-price conservation fees to enter the kruger national park.
You can visit our website to view the current prices for our safaris, make a booking online to receive an invoice, and then make an online payment before the safari takes place, or contact kurt safari for any enquiries you might have regarding other payment options.
I cannot even begin to list the most amazing experiences we’ve had whilst on safaris in the knp! there are too many to count, each encounter very different but equally remarkable. if you consider the size of the knp and how many animals call it their home, you can only begin to imagine the things we’ve seen—from a ride of lionesses to the birth of a brand-new baby giraffe. each time our jaws drop at the splendour of mother nature. you will have to come and see it for yourself.
Placing yourself in the middle of a nature reserve where there are numerous predators and dangerous animals could sound pretty intimidating, but rest assured, kurt safari guides all have in-depth knowledge about the behaviour of these animals and would never put your life in danger. elephants can be aggressive if they have young ones to protect and even lone elephant bulls have charged at cars that don’t know when to back away, but obtaining injuries from wild animals whilst on a safari is very rare and you need not be worried—just enjoy the ride.
