Please note
Gravel roads make up more than two-thirds of Namibia’s roads. We suggest renting a 4×4. Since Windhoek, where most rental car companies are located, is 45 kilometers west of Hosea Kutako International Airport, you will need to make arrangements with your rental car company for a transfer from the airport to Windhoek. Alternatively, please contact us, and we will arrange for you to rent a car and move. Rates are available upon request.
Road transfer from Windhoek to Swakopmund in the early morning (duration +/- 4 hours.) Arrive in Swakopmund and check into your hotel, where you will be greeted warmly and able to relax in the fresh coastal air. Following a conversation with your tour guide about the next seven days, you can choose to take an optional city tour or explore this charming and lovely town on foot at your leisure.
Namibians consider Swakopmund to be a welcome respite from the inland sun. It is also well-liked by tourists due to its old-world charm and laid-back atmosphere. It was founded in 1892 during the German colonial era and served as the territory’s main port for many years. The distinctive German colonial character has been well preserved, and many of the old buildings are still functional today. The Woermann House (1905) now houses an art gallery, while the Woermann Tower was once used to keep an eye on ships entering the harbor. The “Alte Kaserne,” the “Hohenzollern Haus,” and the Railway Station Building are among the other historic structures worth visiting.
Dinner, a night’s stay, and breakfast
Relax and enjoy a day at your leisure. A Catamaran cruise in the Walvis Bay lagoon with oysters and sparkling wine served on board, the popular ‘Living Desert tour,’ or a Quad Bike excursion into the dunes are just a few of the activities available in Swakopmund. Visit the Crystal Gallery to see some of the world’s largest crystals, or go on a guided Fatbike Tour through town or into the dunes.
The path between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, flanked on one side by the towering yellow sand dunes of the Namib Desert and on the other by the sea and the freezing Benguela Current, will provide a fascinating contrast if you travel the short distance to Walvis Bay for a Boat Cruise. The mists that cover the dunes and beaches early in the morning are almost as eerie as the wind-blown sands that float over the dune ridges in the late afternoon, propelled by on-shore winds.
Dinner can be had at any of Swakopmund’s well-known and famous restaurants throughout the evening.
Dinner, a night’s stay, and breakfast
Today’s departure from the cooler coastal temperatures is preceded by another sumptuous buffet meal. You go on in the safari car, passing through the fascinating Spitzkoppe Mountain area en route to the Erongo Mountains, where you visit the Omandumba Farm and spend a few fascinating hours with the local SAN Bushmen Tribe. Spend a few unforgettable hours learning about the interesting and fun-loving SAN and participating in events such as jewelry making with Ostrich Egg Shell or bow and arrow shooting.
Finally, you travel to your overnight lodging, arriving in the afternoon. Before a delicious dinner in the Boma, enjoy some refreshing sundowners (not included).
Dinner, a night’s stay, and breakfast
You sleep in a little later today, in preparation for a leisurely breakfast. Your lodge offers a variety of exciting optional excursions, such as Game Drives or a visit to the amazing Dinosaur Footprints, where you can take a simple 1.5 km Guided Walk that lasts about 30 minutes (not included.) These excursions can also be done in the morning before heading off to your next destination.
After that, you’ll board the Tour Vehicle again and travel north to the renowned Etosha National Park area. Arrive and check-in at your lovely, comfortable Lodge before taking a stroll through the lush green gardens, which provide a striking contrast to the surrounding bush savannah. Swim in the cold, sparkling pool at your leisure, or sip sundowners while watching the sun set in the west.
Dinner, a night’s stay, and breakfast
After breakfast, you can travel the short distance to the popular Etosha National Park, where you will spend the whole day in the Tour Vehicle observing the fascinating and wonderful wildlife.
The Etosha National Park is one of Africa’s largest parks, covering 22 270 square kilometers of saline desert, savannah, and woodlands. The Etosha Pan, a large, shallow depression covering approximately 5000 square kilometers, is its defining feature. The pan is a desolate expanse of white broken mud that shimmers with mirages on most days for the majority of the year. The Etosha experience is unlike any other, with huge herds of game and the eerie “great white place of dry water” as a backdrop. The park is home to 114 mammal species, including some uncommon and endangered species like black rhino and black-faced impala. Many bird species, including the European bee-eater and many wader species, can be found in the park, with about a third of them being migratory.
Lunch can be had on the go in the form of a hearty Lunch Pack, or at one of the Camp restaurants, followed by a refreshing swim in the pool. Observing the game from the comfortable shady benches overlooking the camp waterhole is also an option. You return to your lodging in the late afternoon, where the evening promises another stunning sunset and delectable dinner.
Breakfast and Overnight
After another 2 -3 hour excursion into the popular Etosha National Park, you will depart on the penultimate leg of your Namibian Safari, passing through the towns of Outjo and Otjiwarongo on your way to the Waterberg Plateau Park. As you get closer to the Waterberg, marvel at the ever-changing landscapes and the huge and majestic plateau that rises in the distance.
Once you’ve checked in, there are a variety of activities to choose from, including Guided Walking Trails, a visit to the Cheetah Conservation Foundation, and a relaxing massage at the Spa.
The Waterberg Plateau, rising 200 meters above a sea of African bush and savannah, is an island of vivid color with its flamboyant brick-red sandstone formations and lush green vegetation. The 40 549-hectare park, 60 kilometers east of Otjiwarong, was founded in 1972. It was originally established as a refuge for Caprivi’s uncommon and endangered species, such as Roan and Sable Antelope, Tsessebe, and Cape Buffalo. Today, the park is home to over 200 bird species and a variety of vegetation that ranges from acacia savannah at the base of the plateau to lush-green sub-tropical dry forest with tall trees and grassy plains at the summit.
As your safari day comes to a close, watch the sun set over the horizon one last time before the African night sky is illuminated by a million stars.
Breakfast and Overnight
After breakfast, fly to Hosea Kutako International Airport outside of Windhoek via Okahandja and Windhoek. You sign in for your flight to your next destination once you arrive. If time allows, clients who are staying in Windhoek can be dropped off at their hotel en route.
Okahandja is a town of great significance to the Herero people of Namibia since it was the seat of their Chief Samuel Maharero. It is located directly north of Windhoek. Thousands of Hereros flock here every August for a pilgrimage to pay respects to their great chiefs’ graves. Woodcarvers from the north sell their wares in the Market, which makes Okahandja an important center for them.
