Day 2: Full Day Open Vehicle Safari in the Kruger National Park

All safaris start before sunrise as this is the best time of the day to enter the park. Not knowing what to expect, after a short drive to the park, we enter the park gates, and your guide will take you into an area that is popular for spotting wildlife. An early morning start will also give you a better opportunity to spot predators.

The lodge will arrange breakfast packs and after about 3 hours of driving in the park, your guide will stop for breakfast, a bathroom break, and a chance to grab a coffee. We then continue with the safari, exploring the Kruger’s various eco-zones, each of which has different wildlife. We also visit rivers and watering holes as well as plains and Bushveld regions, all areas within the park that boast large wildlife populations.

For lunch, we stop at a rest camp. This meal will be on your account. While at the camp there will be time to do some curio shopping or to indulge in a refreshing cold beer! The guide will then continue with the safari, as you make your way back towards the lodge. We arrive back at around 15:30 or 16:00 pm, with enough time to time to relax, swim and have a great dinner.

Day 3: Morning Safari and Transfer back to Johannesburg

On this day you will have your last safari for the trip. Again, we depart from the lodge before sunrise, and we will tuck into another packed breakfast at one of the rest camps or picnic spots. The guide will focus on finding animals we could not find on the first 2 safaris, hoping especially to catch sight of lion and leopard, as they are most active in the early mornings. The Kruger National Park has 148 mammal species and over 500 bird species. So, there is lots to see and photograph.

After a short breakfast and coffee stop, we will continue with the safari, returning to the lodge at around 12 pm.
Here you say goodbye to your guide and freshen up before the journey back to Johannesburg. Clients are collected by the shuttle at around 12:00-12:30 pm, and we return to Johannesburg OR Tambo shuttle terminal and lodges within a 5 km radius, arriving between 17.00 and 18.00 pm.

3 Day Best of Kruger Classic Safari FAQs

What is the best safari in the Kruger?

The best safari in Kruger National Park is one that includes early-morning drives, a night safari, and a full-day open-vehicle experience, exactly what the 3 Day Best of Kruger Classic Safari offers. This itinerary covers multiple Kruger eco-zones, increases your chances of seeing the Big 5, and includes professionally guided drives for an authentic and rewarding wildlife experience.

The best months for a Kruger safari are April to November, during the dry season. Wildlife is easier to spot as animals gather around watering holes, grass is shorter, and temperatures are cooler for early-morning and late-afternoon game drives. These conditions provide the ideal environment for photography and Big 5 sightings.

Yes. A 3-day Kruger safari is enough to experience the park’s top wildlife areas, especially with an itinerary that includes a night safari, a full-day safari, and a sunrise safari.
