Mpumalanga, aptly known as the “place of the rising sun,” is the first province in South Africa to greet the morning light, and it’s in these cool pre-dawn hours that the Kruger truly comes alive.
As the sky begins to warm, predators are still on the move, hyenas are often seen loping along the roads, and antelope of all kinds begin their early morning graze.
After a short transfer to the park, your guide will take you into some of the region’s prime wildlife hotspots, and you’ll be tracking everything from the Big Five to giraffe, zebra, and other plains game.
Your lodge will prepare hearty breakfast packs, and after about three hours in the bush, you’ll stop for coffee, your packed breakfast, and a quick leg-stretch before heading deeper into the park. The route winds through river systems, thick bushveld, and across wide-open grasslands, habitats that draw elephants, hippos, bright birdlife, and all the classic Kruger sightings you might hope to see.
Around midday, you’ll pause at one of the rest camps for lunch (own account). There’s time to explore the curio shops, grab a cold drink, or cool off with an ice cream before continuing your journey back toward Hazyview.
You’ll arrive at the lodge around 15:30–16:00, with plenty of time to unwind, take a refreshing swim, and enjoy a delicious dinner.

Today you’ll have your second game drive and again we enter the Kruger in the early dawn light, when the bush is cool and animals are at their most active.
Your guide will take you straight into some of the best wildlife territories, those prime spots for encountering the Big Five, grazing plains game, and, if luck is on your side, elusive predators, like lion and even leopard, starting their day.
The lodge will again provide breakfast packs, and after roughly three hours of exploring, you’ll pause for a relaxed meal, a warming cup of coffee, and a quick break.
After the breakfast stop, the safari continues through a mix of eco zones, each home to different wildlife and scenery. To keep everyday exciting, your guide varies the routes and viewing areas, ensuring that you enjoy a fresh perspective on the park.
Around midday, you’ll take a break at one of the rest camps for lunch (own account). There’s time to browse the curio shops, grab a cold drink, or simply enjoy the shade before making your way back to the lodge.
You’ll return around 15:30–16:00 with the rest of the afternoon free to swim, take a walk, and relax before dinner.

On your last say with us, there’s time for one more safari and we’ll head into the park before sunrise once more, making the most of those cool, golden hours that are so well known for giving visitors some of the most memorable sightings.
Your guide will prioritise trying to find any animals you haven’t yet had the chance to see, ensuring that the final route will give you the best possible last look at the Kruger and its wild inhabitants.
Every safari is different, and our guides shift between routes and regions based on the season, recent sightings, and animal behaviour, ensuring your last drive feels just as exciting as the first.
After a brief stop for breakfast and coffee, the drive continues until we make our way back to the lodge around midday.
There’s time to freshen up, gather your bags, and share a final farewell with your guide before your shuttle departs at 12:00.
You’ll reach Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Airport, or your nearby lodge, between 17:00 and 18:00.
