We will depart from Johannesburg and head east as we travel to the Blyde River Canyon, the 3rd largest canyon in the world, the 3 Rondavels, Gods Window, and if time permits, the beautiful Lisbon Falls. After the day’s adventure, we arrive at the lodge between 17:00 and 18:00 pm, check in, have dinner and then rest. (Dinner Included)

Your safari starts before sunrise, with breakfast and lunch in the park being enjoyed at one of the park’s rest camps, returning to the lodge late in the afternoon, with enough time to swim and relax followed by dinner at the Lodge. (Breakfast Pack and Dinner Included)

Your safari starts once again before sunrise, as we take a drive into a region of the park that we have not explored yet, returning to the lodge around 11:30 am for lunch and an afternoon of relaxation. (Breakfast Pack, Lunch and Dinner Included)

We again depart before sunrise and today we spend 5 hours on safari. We return to the lodge for lunch and a swim, before departing at 16:00 pm for a memorable 3 hour sunset/night Kruger Park Safari. After the evening drive, we return to the lodge for dinner. (Breakfast Pack, Lunch, and Dinner Included)

We depart from the lodge at 8 am after a hearty breakfast and arrive in Johannesburg between 13:00 and 14:00 pm. (Breakfast Included)

*The Kruger National Park covers a massive 2 000 000 Hectares, and Kurt Safari was one of the first operators to introduce the Full Day Kruger Park Safari. Compared to the short 3-hour safaris, which must remain close to the camps, forcing the game drive to visit the same areas each day, the full day trip allows visitors to see and experience so much more. The extended time increases the chances of seeing more wildlife as we traverse different grasslands and ecological zones.

*80% of our clients on 5 day safaris see all of the Big 5.

Kurt Safari uses two 4-star lodges in Hazyview, Umbhaba Eco Lodge and if fully booked then Sanbonani Resort Hotel, both are positioned within a convenient 15-minute drive to Phabeni Gate, the main gate of the Kruger National Park. Both lodges offer beautiful accommodation in tranquil gardens, with all the expected amenities. At Kurt Safari, our commitment to ensuring top-notch service extends across all our tours and safaris, promising our clients an experience of unparalleled high quality. Each room offers en-suite facilities, WI-FI, air-conditioning, and traditional meals, guaranteeing a secure and comfortable 4-star experience for our valued clients.

Accommodation

Umbhaba Eco Lodge

We prefer to use lodges and hotels outside of the Kruger Park as there is a bigger variety of accommodation options available and it’s only a 10-15 minute drive to the nearest entry gate. All the accommodation we use are privately owned.

Day 1: Transfer and Full Day Panorama Route Tour

(Dinner Included)

Guests will be collected from different lodges and hotels within 5 km of the OR Tambo International Airport at 7:00 am or from the OR Tambo International Airport Shuttle and Bus Terminal. Private Transport to the Airport is available.

We will leave Johannesburg and drive east towards the magnificent Mpumalanga Province and the picturesque Panorama Route, as we make our lodge in Hazyview and the world-famous Kruger National Park. Along the way, the guide will stop at one of the small towns for lunch, which will be your own account.

As we travel the Panorama Route, we will visit the The Blyde River Canyon, which is the 3rd largest canyon in the world. The canyon is over 40km long and is as deep as 1 200m in certain places. The canyon contains a vast amount of plant life, with meandering rivers and deep dams making up the floor of the canyon.

At a lookout point above the canyon, guests get to see another beauty of the Panorama Route, the 3 Rondavels.

The Rondavels get their name from their appearance which is similar to Rondavel houses, which are traditional huts, commonly built in Africa. These 3 rock outcrops stand out prominently from the landscape.

We then make a stop at God’s Window which allows people a spectacular view from the escarpment. Given that the lookout point is 1000 m above sea level, one can see as far as Kruger and beyond on a clear day!  Your comfortable walking shoes will be needed as the various lookout points require a bit of a walk (on clear designated paths) to get to. To get to the top, it takes the average person around 15-20 minutes, but it is worth the walk, which will take you through a natural rainforest environment.

After the adventure, we will arrive at the lodge between 17:00 and 18:00 pm, check in, have dinner and rest before the next few days, which will be early starts as we go on safari!

(Breakfast & Dinner Included)

We start our safaris just before the sun rises. This is the best time of the day to travel to the park and your guide will know just where to find the wildlife you’ve come to see, including the Big 5 and plains game. Early morning safaris are also the ideal time of the day to see predators.

The lodge will arrange breakfast packs and your guide will stop after about 3 hours of driving for breakfast, a bathroom break and a chance to get coffee. We then continue the safari. The beautiful Kruger is home to a wide variety of eco zones and in each one, there are all sorts of interesting wildlife to see. During our drive we will visit rivers and watering holes as well as plains and Bushveld regions, all the areas that are best known for wildlife sightings.

We then stop for lunch at a rest camp, where the meal will be on your own account, and there will also be time to do some curio shopping or enjoy a cold beer! The guide will then continue with the safari as you head back towards the lodge. We arrive around 15:30 and 16:00 pm, with enough time to relax, swim and have dinner.

(Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

Today we start the safari again well before the sun is high in the sky. Your guide will focus on finding animals and exploring regions not yet seen or covered during this trip. The Kruger National Park is home to 148 mammal species and over 500 bird species, so there is always something to see as no safari is ever the same.

Kruger has a huge network of roads to choose from, and guides will safari in different areas of the park in different seasons, giving clients the chance to see more sightings and also the beautiful wilderness and vegetation.

We return to the lodge around 11 am and today we have an afternoon of leisure, with time to be lazy, swim, or have a walk around the lodge gardens. You can also try our local beers or just enjoy our great African weather. A light lunch and tasty dinner will be served at the lodge.

(Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

We leave the lodge early to again be at the gate before sunrise. Today your guide will focus on finding the animals we couldn’t find during the first 3 safaris. The Kruger National Park never disappoints and every day is as exciting as the first.

With such a massive network of roads to choose from, guides will safari in different areas of the park during the different seasons, giving clients the chance to see as many animals as possible. Our early mornings are an opportune time to see predators.

After a short breakfast and coffee stop, we will continue with the safari, making our way back to the lodge, arriving at around 11 am.

Lunch will be served at the lodge, and there is time to relax, swim and enjoy the African sun. At 15:45 pm, we leave the lodge for a 3 hour Kruger Park night safari.

The sun sets early in the winter months, meaning clients will have a longer night safari, and in summer, clients will enjoy beautiful sunsets while on safari. We travel in search of nocturnal wildlife, before returning to the lodge around 20:00 pm for a lovely dinner, and on this last night, it is time to reflect on the last 2 days of safari.

(Breakfast Included)

We depart from the lodge at 8:00 am, after a filling breakfast, and head directly to Johannesburg via the N4 Highway.

The guide will stop a few times at rest stops and we arrive at OR Tambo International Airport or at a location within a 5 km radius, between 13:00 and 14:00 pm. We advise clients not to book flights earlier than 16:00 pm. In the event of arriving late at the airport, booking a later flight will ensure that you are on time.

What makes kruger national park (knp) safaris so special?

Many people don’t see the point in driving through a bushveld looking for animals, but there’s so much more to it. wild animals are seen as a nuisance in most inhabited areas, but if you’ve never seen the magic of animals in their natural habitat, untouched by humans, you’ve been missing out! looking at zoo animals in their enclosures might be considered nice, because you’re almost 100% guaranteed that you’ll see them, but that’s not how they behave in the wild. nothing beats the thrill of finding a pride of lions laying in the shade, or walking across the road right in front of you, and once you’ve felt the reverberations of an elephant’s trumpet through your bones, you’ll be hooked! our clients often come back for more, because you never know what you’re going to see next…

Every single one of our guides have a passion for the kruger park. we love waking up every morning and meeting new people, never mind sharing our love for the bushveld with them. we are highly experienced and have heaps of knowledge about the fauna and flora in the knp at our clients’ disposal. one of our best characteristics must be that we focus on small groups to give each safari trip the best chance of seeing the best sights that the knp has to offer. our safaris depart any day of the week to suit our clients’ busy schedules and will accommodate all your needs as best we can. visit our website for more information on our company…

We operate from hazyview and will collect you from any of the lovely holiday resorts, lodges or nearby locations. our vehicles depart at different times in different seasons… for full day or morning safaris, we leave at 5am in october to march and at 5h30am in april to september. for afternoon safaris, we leave at 13h00 pm in the afternoons. most of the wildlife in the park prefers hiding in the shade during the hot afternoons, so we highly recommend joining us for the earlier safaris to get the most out of your trip.

Anything to do with the word “game” whilst on a safari—like game drives or looking for game—all refers to wild animals in safari context. you might also encounter “game” on the menus of some traditional restaurants, which basically means that you’re ordering wild buck meat, or even warthog.

Even though the knp falls in a malaria area, most foreigners are pleasantly surprised at how few mosquitoes are actually encountered whilst on a safari. these mosquitoes breed in water, and even in the middle of our rainy season in december, we don’t consider them to be a relentless menace. despite what you might have been told, mosquitoes are not a plague in the knp and although we are always cautious about malaria, the locals in and around the knp do not run around with repellents all the time.

If you’re really worried and consider yourself or anyone joining you on the safari to be particularly susceptible to this rare disease, be sure to consult your gp. there are many places in the park where you can buy mosquito repellent containing deet—this is the most vital ingredient in insect repellents as it has been proven to repel the malaria-carrying mosquitoes effectively.

Even though the kruger park is basically a giant protected bushveld and sparsely populated, there are many little “towns” and camps where you can find anything from grocery stores, souvenir stores, petrol stations and much more.

As mentioned before, there are many places in the knp where we can stop over for lunch where you can buy take-away food or choose to have a meal at the various restaurants. we usually have lunch at skukuza, but this is not set in stone.

Two words: comfortable and practical. seeing as you’re going to be driving around for the majority of the time on your safari experience, it is advisable that you wear clothes that are not too tight and not too hot. winters can be cold, so check the forecast beforehand, but summers are the opposite—just take a jacket with you in case it gets chilly, and stay away from high heels, ladies! we might stop on top of rocky mountains to give you an in-person taste of the spectacular views in the knp. trust me, it’s spine-chilling raw beauty.

You’ll be surprised at the true meaning of this term—it actually refers to the five most feared animals in the bush. they are extremely dangerous to hunt on foot and also rather rare. the big 5 consists of african lions, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. it really is a tourist attraction and many safari companies utilise this term as a major marketing strategy.

We cannot guarantee that there will be sightings of all five animals in the big 5, but we can guarantee that we will do our best to find them. elephants are massive, this is true, but in the lush untouched bushveld of the kruger, if they don’t want to be seen, they can easily disappear behind the trees mere meters away from you. they tend not to be too shy, unlike leopards. rhinos are extremely scarce, but our guides know where their usual grazing spots are, and a pride of lions would attract so much attention that our radios would notify us if there’s a sighting nearby. nevertheless, you are guaranteed to see a very diverse variety of animals in the kruger national park.

Children under 8 are more than welcome on privately hired open vehicles, yes. this is purely out of consideration for our other clients who do not have children and might not have the patience for their unique outlook and excitement about each wild animal we encounter. all children under 12 have discounted safari rates, as well as half-price conservation fees to enter the kruger national park.

You can visit our website to view the current prices for our safaris, make a booking online to receive an invoice, and then make an online payment before the safari takes place, or contact kurt safari for any enquiries you might have regarding other payment options.

I cannot even begin to list the most amazing experiences we’ve had whilst on safaris in the knp! there are too many to count, each encounter very different but equally remarkable. if you consider the size of the knp and how many animals call it their home, you can only begin to imagine the things we’ve seen—from a ride of lionesses to the birth of a brand-new baby giraffe. each time our jaws drop at the splendour of mother nature. you will have to come and see it for yourself.

Placing yourself in the middle of a nature reserve where there are numerous predators and dangerous animals could sound pretty intimidating, but rest assured, kurt safari guides all have in-depth knowledge about the behaviour of these animals and would never put your life in danger. elephants can be aggressive if they have young ones to protect and even lone elephant bulls have charged at cars that don’t know when to back away, but obtaining injuries from wild animals whilst on a safari is very rare and you need not be worried—just enjoy the ride.
