One of the areas outside of the park is Shangaan territory and this proud tribe welcomes guests into their chiefdom, allowing guests to get to know their way of life. Their homes lie between the Kruger and the Drakensberg Mountains and you can tour their village in the company of an English speaking guide.
Not only will you get the opportunity to tour the village, but you will also get to meet the chief of the tribe. Your guide will tell you how to pay your respects to the chief. This is a fully active village and while here you can watch the women as they ground flour or knuckle down with their beadwork. You also have the option of spending the night in a traditional hut.

You’ve seen all kinds of animals while on your Kruger Park safari, and at this centre, you can see efforts to save endangered, hurt animals. If you take a round trip back to the city, you can stop at the Hoedspruit Endangered species centre. Every two hours, there are guided, interactive tours and guests get to find out exactly what kind of work is done at the centre. The main focus of the centre is the cheetah but the team takes in all kinds of animals in need of rehabilitation.
Just about all of the areas around the Kruger include strikingly beautiful landscapes. Naturally, there are plenty of hiking trails to be enjoyed! Some of the best places to hike include the Sabie River Valley. The various hiking trails will take you through amazing forests, past towering waterfalls, and through valleys. Depending on how fit you are, there are different trails available and it’s good to keep in mind that some trails require a permit. Be sure to do your research thoroughly before you set off on a hike.
