Five Wildlife Charities to Support This December.
If you have been abundantly blessed this year, why not think about giving a contribution to one of South Africa’s independent wildlife charities?
Each year the various wildlife organisations in South Africa play a vital role in supporting and assisting the ongoing conservation initiatives that keep one of the most precious and important heritages of our country alive. The work that these organisations do is without a doubt indispensable and the people who keep these charities going are the unsung heroes of our country.
Through thick and thin, each year the many charities involved in conservation do their work on a dime, often cutting their own incomes to pay for the work that needs to be done. And for the most part, these organisations are supported by the generous donations of those who support the work that they are doing.
With this in mind, if you are looking for a charity to support this year, there are plenty that would appreciate a donation. We are putting the spotlight on just 5 of the worthy organisations that you can support.
- Care of Wild Rhino Sanctuary – Donate Here
The plight of the African rhino is one that should be familiar with most people. Rhinos are being relentlessly hunted by poachers,= who harvest the horns from adult rhinos often leaving behind orphaned babies. Care for Wild saves both the babies and any rhinos who survive an attack and to date they have come to the rescue of more than 100 rhinos, rehabilitated them and released them into a protected environment.
- African Pangolin Working Group – Donate Here
The African Pangolin is another endangered animal. There are 4 species of these interesting creatures and this group seeks to rescue and care for those who have been targeted by poachers. The work this organisation does is helping to keep the African pangolin alive.
- WILDTRUST – Donate Here
An organisation made up of programmes focusing on the terrestrial biodiversity and the oceans surrounding South Africa, WILDTRUST certainly has its hands full especially since a part of their work centres on uplifting and empowering communities through training. At the forefront of their work, the organisation seeks to protect both terrain wildlife and marine wildlife, making them an important part of the country’s conservation efforts.
- SANParks Honorary Rangers – Donate Here
This organisation comprises of over 2 000 volunteer game rangers who work in the various SANParks throughout South Africa. The Honorary Ranges raise money for education and for combating crime, and doing maintenance at the parks in which they work. The organisation also raises funds for the K9 anti-poaching unit.
- The Orca Foundation – Donate Here
As well as having a rich inland wildlife heritage, South Africa also has a unique and diverse marine life that is in need of protection and care. The Orca Foundation is one such organisation committed to marine life and it works towards doing research, offering education and helping to make a change in the way in which humanity interacts with the ocean.
