The world-renowned Kruger National Park is one of the world’s last and greatest wilderness areas. The park is famous for its magnificent wildlife populations and plant diversity, both best seen on a Kruger Park safari or tour. The Kruger has its own pace, trying to rush the experience can easily ruin your time in here. Our Kruger safaris are laid back and honour that slower Kruger vibe.
The park is located in the north-easternmost part of South Africa, bordering Mozambique to the east and Zimbabwe to the north. The area covers 2 000 000 hectares and is made even larger with the private reserves open to the Kruger Park on the western border. The Kruger is about the size of Israel.
The Kruger is divided into 3 sections with the Northern section being very remote and wild, while the South is lush and often a tourist hub of activity. Although most tourists visit the Southern Kruger, the park remains a quiet place.
Many different animals can be seen in the Southern Kruger, especially the Big 5. Our Kruger Park tours are predominantly focused on the Southern Kruger as most of our accommodation is booked in and around Hazyview.
That being said, we do accommodate those guests wanting to travel to the north of the park. In the north, there are fewer visitors and even fewer roads, a true wilderness area with huge areas never visited by people. One can travel huge distances without seeing another vehicle.
Kurt Safari offers tours and safaris to the North and the guides are all true wilderness specialists looking for wild animals. Predators are harder to find in the North, because of the vast areas and because vehicles cannot just travel anywhere. Elephant and buffalo are in abundance.
An intrepid traveller needs to spend no fewer than 4 days in the north of the park, as the distances are large. We travel really slowly along the river beds looking for the wildlife to come drink water in late afternoons.
The best time to safari to the great north is between April and October out of the rainy season and during the winter months which are a lot cooler than the summer months.
