How to Save Money while on a Kruger Park Safari

Saving money before a trip is usually the way that most people do things, but since times are a little rocky or perhaps you might just want your money to go a little further so that you can enjoy a more memorable trip into to the wild, there are quite a few easy money saving tips that you can employ while on safari to stretch your budget that little bit further.

And here is how you can do it.

  1. Just spend less

Buying fewer things while you are on your safari is the easiest way to save. Spending less is also a lot easier when you are in a country where the exchange rate is almost certainly going to be in your favour. When you are travelling, you can look for cheaper places to eat and shop, as well as by choosing cheaper safari options and cheaper places to stay. You can also cut back on how much you spend on souvenirs.

  1. Travel during the off-season

This is a bit of a no-brainer, because in season travelling can cost a small fortune compared to off-season travelling. Accommodation and tours can be a lot less expensive when you travel at the right time of year, which in the case of a Kruger Park safari means you should think about travelling during the spring and summer months.

  1. Fly during the off-season

With airline travel, you will find that certain days of the week are cheaper to fly than others, so when you are planning your Kruger safari, make sure that you book your flight on a day that is cheaper than others. Also, keep in mind that the second flight of the day is often the cheapest.

  1. Think about renting out your home

If you live in a country where renting out private homes as accommodation is safe and acceptable, you can actually make money while you are in South Africa by doing just that. Make sure that when you rent out your place that you have some sort of management company take care of the property while you are gone.

  1. Book well ahead of time

Booking everything, from your accommodation, to your activities, including your safari, well ahead of your trip can actually help you save money especially if you take advantage of specials and discounts that might be available when you are doing your planning.

  1. Don’t rent a car

If you can help it, you shouldn’t rent a car but instead rely on the tour company or on public transport, as far as it is available. Most of the greatest Kruger tour companies will offer guests transfers to and from the park and the guest accommodation. Renting a car costs a lot, as you are paying for the actual car as well as for the petrol that you will need to put in the vehicle each day. Besides, when on a guided Kruger safari, you won’t necessarily need a vehicle to get around.
