A Kruger Park Safari Holiday for Foodies

A Culinary Safari Adventure in Kruger National Park

We talk a lot about the Kruger National Park, the attractions, the wildlife and the things that you can do in the surrounding areas. What we have not yet talked about is the food that you can indulge in when on a Kruger Park Safari

We all have to eat, and often guests to the park will eat at one of the many local restaurants or cafes, both in the Kruger and in Hazyview.

Or guests will eat at their hotel or lodge.

With our foodie guide, we’re going to share some of the other spots where you can grab a bit to eat and get to know more about the local flavours.

Lowvelders and the local community are big on big food.

You can expect braais of all kinds, with delicious meats and vegetables, homemade pies and other types of hearty foods. There are places serving up interesting dishes of local venison and there are plenty of outdoor eateries where you can sit under the stars, close to a fire, and listen to the sounds of Africa at night.

When you are touring with Kurt Safari, we want you to have a memorable holiday, one that includes memories of the bushveld, the welcoming people and the local cuisine. Whether you have booked a whole holiday with us or if you are just in the area looking for an incredible experience, here are some places you should go.

Three Bridges Restaurant – Hoedspruit

Not only can you tuck into some really delicious things here at Three Bridges Restaurant, but while you are enjoying your meal, you can often see elephants and waterbuck from the restaurant deck. With the Olifants River below and a stunning surrounding landscape, spending some time here, taking in the full vibe and being able to fully enjoy being in the bush is worth the trip.

Skukuza – Kruger National Park

A couple of years ago Skukuza restaurant and cafeteria underwent a full makeover. The result is a stunning but rustic place to eat and a full menu made for the safari goer. A lot of the menu consists of quick and easy meals that are light enough that you won’t feel sluggish and uncomfortable when you are out on safari. Some of the popular choices include a pie, gravy and chips or something made with venison.

In the height of summer, stopping at Skukuza for some ice cream is a must!

A Skottle Braai – Kruger Picnic Spots

Some of the best memories made in the Kruger, are made around a gas skottle at one of the picnic spots. Many guests choose to bring their own gas cookers, known as skottles in South Africa, but you can always arrange with your tour company to include a skottle for your trip. Usually guests will cook boerewors for rolls, but the skottle is also perfect for cooking eggs and bacon for a scrumptious, warming breakfast.
