Western Yellow-bellied Sand Snake [Psammophis subtaenitus]
Appearance
It is a long thin snake with rounded pupils and a pointed head. It usually have stripes from the neck to the tail. It gets its name from the bright yellow color on its belly. It can be between 70 cm and 1 meters.
Diet
The snake feeds on birds, snakes, frogs, rodents and lizards.
Distribution
The Western Yellow-bellied Sand Snake can be found in the Limpopo and North West provinces and in the surrounding areas. It favours savanna biomes.
Breeding
Western Yellow-bellied Sand Snake lays a cluster with about 4-10 eggs.
