The Must Have Safari Apps to Download Now
In the past, the only way that you’d have access to information about the plants, the animals, and the maps that will be necessary when you are travelling the park during a safari, would only be found in the many, many books that have been written on the subject. But lagging around the books you would need to access that information whenever you need it is just not possible unless you have a lot of luggage space.
This is where the apps come in.
These days there are plenty of apps that can be downloaded onto a smartphone device and taken with you in your pocket while travelling on safari. Since the Kruger National Park is such a beloved destination, and one that is considered to be the destination of choice for those looking for a once-in-a-lifetime safari experience, safari apps are becoming increasingly popular and they cover just about every part of the safari you could need information about.
You can download one or all of these apps. When using them, you will be able to look up interesting information about the wildlife, the plant life or the best roads to take, allowing you to enjoy a more inclusive safari experience, even if you don’t have a guide.
- Africa: Live App
This app is incredibly popular and has been downloaded some 40 000 times. The app is designed to give you information about the latest wildlife sightings in whichever park it is you are visiting in Africa (the app includes plenty of the most popular parks). The app also has maps which show exactly where the animals have been recently seen, allowing you to easily get to them.
- SkyView
SkyView is a fun app that is made to be used at night, to map the stars and to teach you more about the heavenly bodies. In Africa, light pollution in a safari destination is just about non-existent and there is nothing quite like spending an evening laying beneath the stars and looking at the millions of twinkling lights. Not only will this app give you the names of the stars and the constellations you are looking at but it will also tell you more about what else you can expect to see, such as meteor showers. The app makes use of your camera which you can point to the area of the sky that you want to learn more about.
- KrugerExplorer
This is one of the best apps to have when in the Kruger, but you will have to pay to use it. With KrugerExplorer, you will have an all-in-one guide “book” of sorts, which will include just about every type of known animal, plant and insect that lives in the park. This app also has a list of the most popular routes and it will tell you what you can see along each route. The app will also give you information about the picnic sites, water holes and rest camps.
