TikTok is the social media platform that has fast gained international fame. A place where users can share creative short video clips of everything from their hobbies to their travels, TikTok is the global phenomenon that continues to grow.
With the worldwide lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, with travellers unable to go on an exciting trip, many turned to social media to indulge in a virtual great escape. And one of the parks that enjoyed the most views and interactions on the TikTok platform, was the Kruger National Park.
Beating some of the other incredibly beautiful parks in the world, like Redwood National Park in the USA, the Kruger ranked 9th out of 51 parks and accumulated some 98,700,000 views. It was also the only park in Africa to make it into the top 10 list.
The study was conducted by ParkSleepFly, a travel company, and the result has given the Kruger National Park another reason to celebrate, even during these tough times. The park’s popularity on social media will hopefully help to encourage visitors to return or book that first time visit in the next few years when normality returns to the world.
Why the Kruger is still a hotspot for tourism
The Kruger National Park remains one of the most fulfilling places to visit in Africa. Home to one of the greatest and most diverse animal populations, a trip to the Kruger National Park not only leaves the visitor feeling super relaxed, but it also provides guests with that once in a lifetime experience. Since, for many visitors, South Africa is a bit of an out of the way destination, and a trip here is something they might only do once, so making a turn in the Kruger, for a week at least, is the best and only way to make the most of the holiday.
You are not likely to need a reason to visit the Kruger, but we’re still going to give you a few.
It is to this day Africa’s biggest and oldest places to view wildlife. Here guests can see the famous Big 5 which includes elephants, rhinos, leopards, lions, and buffalos. And it is not just the wildlife that can be a huge attraction, but the incredibly diverse landscapes are also a pull.
Are you a selfie-nista? Well then the Kruger is one place that you should head to, to take that selfie that will get all the attention. The Kruger is one of the most popular places for taking a selfie, with over 96 734 291 hashtags on Instagram.
The recent addition of the Kruger Shalati accommodation, which is essentially accommodation in a train which has been placed on the Selati Bridge, means you can stay in luxury accommodation like no other.
Finally, the Kruger still tries to stay true to its traditional, rustic pass, and at some camps, like Skukuza, you can sit under the stars and watch a movie, usually something about the park or the wildlife.
