Gravel roads make up more than two-thirds of Namibia’s roads. We suggest renting a 4×4. Since Windhoek, where most rental car companies are located, is 45 kilometers west of Hosea Kutako International Airport, you will need to make arrangements with your rental car company for a transfer from the airport to Windhoek. Alternatively, please contact us, and we will arrange for you to rent a car and move. Rates are available upon request.

You can go sight-seeing on your own in Namibia’s capital. Stately historic buildings in the German architectural style of the turn of the century add a lot to the area. We tour these historic structures, which add to the city’s unique charm, including the historic seat of government, also known as the “Tintenpalast,” which translates to “palace of ink” in German. The Christuskirche, which stands next to the Tintenpalast and has a graceful sphere, is a striking landmark in the region. The country’s past is reflected in the white-walled Alte Feste, which was once a fort and is now a museum. Windhoek is located at a height of 1650 meters above sea level. Despite the fact that Windhoek has a population of only 300 000 inhabitants, it is Namibia’s largest city.

A large swath of arid land. A section of the Tsauchab River and the Hebron vault, which is constantly moving and shifting. Today, we recommend leaving early for Sossusvlei, where the final 5 kilometers are driven in 4×4 vehicles. You will have the chance to scale one of the world’s tallest sand dunes at the Vlei. After that, you can drive to the Sesriem Canyon at the Sossusvlei area’s entrance, where we will spend some time exploring. We return to Desert Hills Lodge in the early afternoon.
Sossusvlei
The famous red sand dunes of the Namib can be found in Sossusvlei, which is located in the scenic Namib-Naukluft National Park. The bright blue skies contrast with the massive red dunes, making this one of Africa’s most picturesque natural wonders and a photographer’s dream. With its unique dunes rising to nearly 400 meters—some of the highest in the world—this awe-inspiring destination is probably Namibia’s top attraction. These famous dunes come alive in the morning and evening sun, attracting photographers from all over the world. Sossusvlei is home to oryx, springbok, ostrich, and a number of snakes, among other desert animals.
Visitors can scale ‘Big Daddy,’ one of Sossusvlei’s tallest dunes; explore Deadvlei, a white, salt claypan dotted with ancient trees; or, for the more extravagant, take scenic flights or hot air balloon rides over the dunes, followed by a once-in-a-lifetime champagne breakfast.
Canyon of Sesriem
Sesriem Canyon is a deep chasm cut through the rocks by water that is best explored on foot. Birds roost in the crags and lizards dart along the ledges, while stony walls climb sharply on both sides of the canyon. When early settlers used the canyon as a water source, they used six strings of leather (‘ses riem – six thongs) tied together to lower buckets into the water at the canyon’s base.
After a long day, take a relaxing siesta or spend the afternoon at the beach, where you can unwind.

After breakfast, you’ll travel to the Namibian Coast through the magnificent Namib Desert and Namib Naukluft Park. We’ll pass through Solitaire and Walvis Bay on our way to you.
The tiny Namib Desert village of Solitaire serves as an oasis, and although there isn’t much to do or see in Solitaire, it is an important stop on the way to the ancient dunes of Sossusvlei. Between Sossusvlei and Walvis Bay, Solitaire has the only gas station, general store, and post office. Solitaire has a small bar and is popular for its apple pie, which is said to be the best in Namibia.
En route to the coast, take the Kuiseb Pass. You will arrive in Swakopmund in the early afternoon, after which we will take a city tour or explore the town on foot at our leisure. Check into the renowned Hansa Hotel.

Early breakfast and free time, or you may participate in the various activities offered at the coast at your own expense (boat tour, bites and brews, quad biking, living desert tour, skydiving, etc. Optional).
Tour of the Levo Dolphins and Seals
This dolphin and seal cruise leaves from the Walvis Bay Tanker Jetty at 8:30 a.m. and lasts about four hours. The trip starts with a tour of the Walvis Bay Harbour, which includes a stop at the fish factories, followed by a trip to Bird Island, which includes a stop at Pelican Point to see the Cape Fur Seal Colony. Birds such as pelicans, flamingos, cormorants, and others can be seen along the way. While watching the dolphins play in the calm waters, guests will enjoy fresh oysters and champagne. Around 12:30 p.m., the boat returns to Walvis Bay Tanker Jetty. Due to the possibility of storm, no afternoon trips are available.
Bites & Brews Tour
The products grown and processed in Swakopmund are the focus of this afternoon excursion. We dive into the secrets of ancient Jojoba oil, which has recently made waves in the cosmetic industry, at nearby farms. Guests will sample other Namibian oils in addition to the Jojoba oil. On a nearby farm, we visit a traditional olive farm, learn about olives, and sample both olive oil and table olives. After a short drive back to Swakopmund, we visit a coffee roaster and have the opportunity to learn about coffee as well as sample a variety of brews. For some serious sampling, we’ll visit a nearby gin distillery and a craft beer brewery. Guests are not only treated to a variety of gins and beers, but they are also served some very local snacks cooked by a well-known local chef. We’ll give the chef some imaginative leeway, but we’ll eat some truly regional snacks.

After a leisurely breakfast, you begin your trip to the Etosha National Park’s southern boundary, where you will arrive in the early afternoon. You have free time to relax and enjoy a dip in the pools or indulging in high-quality food and wine.

Early morning departure from your tour vehicle for your first game drive into Etosha National Park, which you will join via Anderson Gate.
The Etosha National Park is one of Africa’s largest parks, covering 22 270 square kilometers of saline desert, savannah, and woodlands. The Etosha Pan, a large, shallow depression covering approximately 5000 square kilometers, is its defining feature. The pan is a desolate expanse of white broken mud that shimmers with mirages on most days for the majority of the year. The Etosha experience is unlike any other, with huge herds of game and the eerie “great white place of dry water” as a backdrop. The park is home to a variety of mammal species, including many uncommon and endangered species such as black rhino and black-faced impala. The park is home to around a third of the world’s bird species, including the European bee-eater and many wader species.
In the late afternoon, you’ll leave the park via the Von Lindequist Gate on the western border and drive to the nearby Mokuti Lodge, where you can spend the rest of your time at leisure.

Today, you can go on a full-day game safari in Etosha National Park in your own car. You’ll have the opportunity to explore different waterholes and areas of the park than the ones you saw yesterday before leaving the park in the late afternoon to return to our lodge outside the park.

This morning, you’ll leave Etosha early to travel to the lodge near Divundu via Tsumeb and Rundu.
Rundu, Namibia’s eastern Kavango region’s capital, is located on the banks of the Okavango River in northern Namibia, bordering Angola. Rundu is known for its local woodcarvers market and the numerous woodcarvers’ huts that can be found along the roadside. Visitors going to Katima Mulilo will find the town to be a perfect place to refuel as well as an excellent base from which to explore the beautiful surroundings. Rundu’s stunning surroundings, including the spectacular Popa Falls and Mahangu Game Reserve, are a must-see for visitors. Excellent game viewing, excellent bird watching, and kayaking on the beautiful Kavango River are all common activities.

Mahango Game Reserve
The tiny Mahango Game Park, which borders Botswana, serves as a convenient stopover between Rundu and Katima Mulilo. It is located within the stunning Bwabwata National Park. Woodlands, vast floodplains of the Okavango River basin known as omurambas, and the Kavango River characterize the park’s landscape. It is home to 99 species of animals, including elephants, lions, leopards, and a range of antelopes such as the red lechwe, sable, and roan. With over 400 species of birds, this park is an ideal destination for bird watchers, and it’s also a great place to see crocodiles and hippo in the Kavango River. Night game drives, wildlife safaris, and seeing the African sunset over the floodplains are among the other common activities.

More than 400 of Namibia’s bird species can be found in this area, which is rapidly gaining a reputation as a haven for bird-watchers, nature lovers, and specialist travelers. Scientists who research the wetlands system and its flora and fauna are becoming increasingly interested in it. Victoria Falls is the world’s largest sheet of falling water and one of the Seven Wonders of the World. During a complete flood, 500 million litres of water cascade down at a rate of 100 meters per minute, creating a thunderous roar and towering clouds of spray, earning the local name “mosi – u – tunya,” which means “thundering smoke.”

Many people don’t see the point in driving through a bushveld looking for animals, but there’s so much more to it. wild animals are seen as a nuisance in most inhabited areas, but if you’ve never seen the magic of animals in their natural habitat, untouched by humans, you’ve been missing out! looking at zoo animals in their enclosures might be considered nice, because you’re almost 100% guaranteed that you’ll see them, but that’s not how they behave in the wild. nothing beats the thrill of finding a pride of lions laying in the shade, or walking across the road right in front of you, and once you’ve felt the reverberations of an elephant’s trumpet through your bones, you’ll be hooked! our clients often come back for more, because you never know what you’re going to see next…

We operate from hazyview and will collect you from any of the lovely holiday resorts, lodges or nearby locations. our vehicles depart at different times in different seasons… for full day or morning safaris, we leave at 5am in october to march and at 5h30am in april to september. for afternoon safaris, we leave at 13h00 pm in the afternoons. most of the wildlife in the park prefers hiding in the shade during the hot afternoons, so we highly recommend joining us for the earlier safaris to get the most out of your trip.
Anything to do with the word “game” whilst on a safari—like game drives or looking for game—all refers to wild animals in safari context. you might also encounter “game” on the menus of some traditional restaurants, which basically means that you’re ordering wild buck meat, or even warthog.
Even though the knp falls in a malaria area, most foreigners are pleasantly surprised at how few mosquitoes are actually encountered whilst on a safari. these mosquitoes breed in water, and even in the middle of our rainy season in december, we don’t consider them to be a relentless menace. despite what you might have been told, mosquitoes are not a plague in the knp and although we are always cautious about malaria, the locals in and around the knp do not run around with repellents all the time.
If you’re really worried and consider yourself or anyone joining you on the safari to be particularly susceptible to this rare disease, be sure to consult your gp. there are many places in the park where you can buy mosquito repellent containing deet—this is the most vital ingredient in insect repellents as it has been proven to repel the malaria-carrying mosquitoes effectively.
Even though the kruger park is basically a giant protected bushveld and sparsely populated, there are many little “towns” and camps where you can find anything from grocery stores, souvenir stores, petrol stations and much more.
As mentioned before, there are many places in the knp where we can stop over for lunch where you can buy take-away food or choose to have a meal at the various restaurants. we usually have lunch at skukuza, but this is not set in stone.
Two words: comfortable and practical. seeing as you’re going to be driving around for the majority of the time on your safari experience, it is advisable that you wear clothes that are not too tight and not too hot. winters can be cold, so check the forecast beforehand, but summers are the opposite—just take a jacket with you in case it gets chilly, and stay away from high heels, ladies! we might stop on top of rocky mountains to give you an in-person taste of the spectacular views in the knp. trust me, it’s spine-chilling raw beauty.
You’ll be surprised at the true meaning of this term—it actually refers to the five most feared animals in the bush. they are extremely dangerous to hunt on foot and also rather rare. the big 5 consists of african lions, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. it really is a tourist attraction and many safari companies utilise this term as a major marketing strategy.
We cannot guarantee that there will be sightings of all five animals in the big 5, but we can guarantee that we will do our best to find them. elephants are massive, this is true, but in the lush untouched bushveld of the kruger, if they don’t want to be seen, they can easily disappear behind the trees mere meters away from you. they tend not to be too shy, unlike leopards. rhinos are extremely scarce, but our guides know where their usual grazing spots are, and a pride of lions would attract so much attention that our radios would notify us if there’s a sighting nearby. nevertheless, you are guaranteed to see a very diverse variety of animals in the kruger national park.
Children under 8 are more than welcome on privately hired open vehicles, yes. this is purely out of consideration for our other clients who do not have children and might not have the patience for their unique outlook and excitement about each wild animal we encounter. all children under 12 have discounted safari rates, as well as half-price conservation fees to enter the kruger national park.

I cannot even begin to list the most amazing experiences we’ve had whilst on safaris in the knp! there are too many to count, each encounter very different but equally remarkable. if you consider the size of the knp and how many animals call it their home, you can only begin to imagine the things we’ve seen—from a ride of lionesses to the birth of a brand-new baby giraffe. each time our jaws drop at the splendour of mother nature. you will have to come and see it for yourself.
Placing yourself in the middle of a nature reserve where there are numerous predators and dangerous animals could sound pretty intimidating, but rest assured, kurt safari guides all have in-depth knowledge about the behaviour of these animals and would never put your life in danger. elephants can be aggressive if they have young ones to protect and even lone elephant bulls have charged at cars that don’t know when to back away, but obtaining injuries from wild animals whilst on a safari is very rare and you need not be worried—just enjoy the ride.
