Kapama offers a truly unique Million Star experience. Guests can sleep out in the open air on the reserve, elevated high up on a platform only surrounded by the night sky. The platform contains an oversized bed that is covered in pristine white linen and a canopy of mosquito netting.

Guests will arrive just before the sun sets so they can enjoy the changing colours of the afternoon sky. The romantic evening gets even better as the guests are treated to a 5 star dinner, served at a table on the platform. When night falls and it is time toe sleep, the platform will be encircled by a ring of lanterns.

The platform has a flush toilet and shower underneath it and both the bed area and bathroom are completely animal proof. There is a Cellphone and two-way radio available for peace of mind. After the night is done, guests can call the game ranger to come and collect you and transport you back to the lodge.

Bush Walks

Bush Walks are a great way to get up close to nature and experience it first hand. Guests will be accompanied by a very experienced guide, providing unique insight into different plants and animals typically not known by people. The guides will also teach guests how to track the old fashioned way, using footprints and scat. Experienced trackers can identify the gender of an animal by looking at its footprint.

Guides avoid larger and dangerous animals but will take guests close to most of the other animals during their walk

Elephant Interaction

While staying at Kapama, guests can take part in a memorable and exciting experience as they get to interact closely with the largest land mammal in the world. This memorable experience starts early in the morning, at around 6:20 am, as guests will be taken via a game vehicle to a designated location. It is best for guests to bring a hat, sun cream and closed shoes as guests will be spending a long time in the wild and will need to be safe.

A short story of Jabulani and the herd is told before guests interact with these majestic animals. The experience gets even better as guests learn the stories of each of the elephants and the life they have lived. Guests will have a chance to closely observe these animals in the wild. Guests get to learn the habits of these large mammals as well as their routines, experiencing something that other safari going guests never get to experience.

After closely observing these animals in the wild, guests will then be introduced to Jabulani and have the chance to feed and interact with him. Guests can touch the elephant and take pictures with the giant. Over the years, the herd has grown by 5 babies. One of the members of the herd – Mambo – is truly unique as he charges through the bush when called and loves the interaction with guests.

Some of the animals that can be found in the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre include the Wild Dog, Cheetah, Serval, Caracal and other rehabilitated animals. One of the most iconic and unique animals in the Centre is the very rare King Cheetah. There are educational videos shown during the tour that shows all the projects that are planned and have been done. Guests will be accompanied by a Kapama Lodge Ranger during the tour of the centre.
