Travel Mistakes to Avoid

Whether it is the first time you are packing your bags and heading outdoors, or the 50th time you are going overseas for a holiday, travel mistakes happen and when they do, they can end up either ruining your holiday or at the very least they will cause a small inconvenience that could mean travel delays or upsets.

Exploring the unknown is part of the fun, but making sure that you have properly planned while also making sure that you have all of the essentials as well as everything else that you might need in order to make your trip a happy and pleasant one, you need to make sure that you avoid these common (and uncommon but definitely problematic) travel mistakes.

  1. Be flexible with what you want to see

When you are travelling to an exciting place like the Kruger National Park, you are likely to want to add as many things to your travel itinerary as possible, and while this is tempting, because of that excitement, it can set you up for a miserable time if you go too over the top with the amount of activities or places that you add to your list.

To ensure that you don’t add too much, you should take into consideration the amount of time you will take to get to the destination, and how much time it will take to go from the destination to the spot on your itinerary.

  1. Only using a guide book

Books and online resources are great for planning a holiday but they can be very generalised which means those hidden gems are just not going to be on your list. To get that full experience, you need to talk to locals, talk to other travellers, or maybe even book a Kruger Park safari.

  1. Not backing up photos

You will be taking loads of photos during your trip, and the last thing you want to experience is losing your photos due to a camera issue, or the camera being stolen. At the end of each day you should consider logging into a Cloud based storage programme and backing up all your photos. This will also allow you to empty your memory card so you don’t run out of space.

  1. Forgoing travel insurance

You can’t control each and every aspect of your trips, and sometimes things get cancelled or delayed, or you end up with a medical emergency. This can end up costing you money, so rather make sure that you take out all of the necessary travel insurance.

  1. Forgetting to tell your bank

The days of carrying cash on holidays is all but over, and you are sure to be using your credit or debit card to pay for things while on your trip. When your bank starts noticing your money being spent in a foreign country, they could freeze your account, which would absolutely ruin your trip. So, instead of this happening, you should make sure that you let your bank know you are going on holiday.
