Three days in the Kruger National Park will give you a very real chance of encountering all of the Big Five, particularly in the wildlife-rich southern regions of the park. With an experienced guide leading each game drive and routes planned around recent sightings and seasonal animal movement, the time spent in the park is used as effectively as possible. While no safari can guarantee specific sightings, the southern Kruger is consistently regarded as one of the best areas in Africa for lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and white rhino.
The most convenient way to reach Kruger Gate Hotel is by flying from Johannesburg or Cape Town to Skukuza Airport, with daily flights operated by Airlink. Your Kurt Safari guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you through the Kruger National Park to the hotel, a scenic 35-minute drive that serves as a beautiful first introduction to the bush. Return transfers to Skukuza Airport are included on the final morning of your stay.
The dry season, running from May through to September, is widely considered the best time for a Kruger safari. Vegetation thins considerably during these months, making wildlife far easier to spot, and animals concentrate around the park’s rivers and waterholes. For the most pleasant temperatures and the lowest chance of rain, April to May and September to October are particularly appealing. That said, the Kruger rewards visitors throughout the year, with summer bringing lush green landscapes and an abundance of newborn animals and migratory birdlife.
This private safari is an excellent choice for first-time safari guests. The pace is unhurried, the accommodation at Kruger Gate Hotel is comfortable and welcoming, and having a dedicated private guide means the experience can be customised entirely to your interests. Your guide will take care of everything in the bush, from reading animal tracks to positioning the vehicle for the best sightings, allowing first-time visitors to relax fully into the experience from the very first drive.
