Mpumalanga, the “place of the rising sun,” is the first province in South Africa to welcome the day, and the best Kruger safaris start before sunrise. The cool early hours are perfect for spotting predators and other wildlife. After a short drive, your guide leads you through the park’s top viewing areas in search of the Big 5 and plains game.
Breakfast packs are provided by the lodge, with a stop about three hours in for coffee and a quick break before continuing through the Kruger’s incredible landscapes, past rivers, bushveld, and open plains, all alive with wildlife.
Around midday, you’ll stop at a rest camp for lunch (own account) with time to browse the curio shop or enjoy a cold drink and ice cream. The drive back to the lodge wraps up around 15:30–16:00, leaving you time to relax, take a swim, and enjoy a delicious dinner.

On your final morning, we depart before sunrise, once again. Your guide will focus on finding any animals still on your wish list, especially lions and leopards, which are most active in the early hours.
No two safaris are ever the same, and guides explore different routes and regions depending on the season to maximise your sightings. After a short breakfast and coffee stop, we continue the safari before returning to the lodge around 11:00.
You’ll have time to freshen up and say goodbye to your guide before the shuttle departs at 12:30, arriving at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Airport or nearby lodges between 17:00 and 18:00.

Kurt Safari is a well-established safari company based in Hazyview, South Africa, which specialises in delivering the best wildlife safaris in the Kruger National Park. Our company is SATSA-accredited, fully insured, and has earned a top-rating on Tripadvisor thanks to our team of expert local guides, modern open-safari vehicles and all-inclusive packages covering accommodation, transfers, meals, and conservation fees.
The luxury version gives you significantly more time in the park (a night drive, two full days and one morning game drive gives you almost 3 full days of game viewing), better guiding ratios in open-sided vehicles, 4-star accommodation instead of 3-star, and higher-quality meals at Umbhaba Eco Lodge, while still keeping the price very competitive.
Travellers consistently rate Kurt Safari’s 4-Day Best of Kruger Luxury Safari as one of the top performers because it operates exclusively in the southern Kruger (the area with the highest leopard and lion density), uses experienced guides who vary routes daily, and maximises early-morning and night-drive time when predators are most active.
Yes — after your direct flight from the UK lands in Johannesburg, you can connect straight on to Kruger Mpumalanga International (MQP / Nelspruit) or even Skukuza Airport and be collected at no extra charge. Many guests are at the lodge by midday, saving the 5–6 hour road transfer.
You stay 3 nights at Umbhaba Eco Lodge (4-star) just outside of Hazyview. Guests consistently praise the spacious air-conditioned rooms, free Wi-Fi, large pool and especially the restaurants generous, tasty South African dinners and breakfasts.
Kruger is a low-risk malaria area. Many travellers visiting in the cooler dry season (roughly April–October) choose not to take antimalarials, but we'd always recommend a quick chat with your GP or a UK travel clinic before you fly — especially for summer trips (November–March) — so you can decide what's right for you.
