Riverine areas and waterholes are reliable magnets: cats and buffalo favour water, leopards haunt the tree-lined rivers, and elephants and rhino graze the surrounding bushveld.
June to August, in the dry winter, gives the highest odds: scarce water concentrates animals at rivers and waterholes, and the thinned-out bush makes them far easier to spot. Early mornings and late afternoons are the most active — which is exactly when guided game drives run.
