Gravel roads make up more than two-thirds of Namibia’s roads. We suggest renting a 4×4. Since Windhoek, where most rental car companies are located, is 45 kilometers west of Hosea Kutako International Airport, you will need to make arrangements with your rental car company for a transfer from the airport to Windhoek. Alternatively, please contact us and we will arrange for you to rent a car and move. Rates available upon request.

Your Rental Vehicle Service Transfer will pick you up at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek. You will be moved to a depot where you will pick up your rental car, and your journey will begin immediately in the direction of Namibia’s north.
You’ll pass through Windhoek and Okahandja on the way. You will be able to stop in Windhoek and buy water and snacks for your trip.
Okahandja is a significant Herero town since it was the seat of Chief Samuel Maharero. Thousands of Hereros gather here every August for a pilgrimage to pay homage to their great chiefs’ graves. Okahandja is a popular destination for northern woodcarvers.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before continuing your journey to the Etosha National Park Region through Otjiwarongo, Otavi, and Tsumeb.
Otjiwarongo was originally known to the Herero as Kanubes, which means “pretty spot” or “place of the fat cattle,” as the region is known for its cattle ranches. The Otjiwarongo district, about 250 kilometers north of Windhoek, is home to a number of guest farms and lodges situated on a slope amid undulating plains. The Otjiwarongo Crocodile Ranch, which breeds crocodiles, and the Cheetah Conservation Fund, an internationally recognized organization, are two interesting features of the town. The Cheetah Conservation Foundation is committed to ensuring the cheetah’s long-term survival through science, conservation, and education.
Otavi is a small town nestled in the foothills of the Otavi Mountains. The Khorab Memorial, about 3 km from Otavi, commemorates the signing of a Ceasefire at Khorab on July 9, 1915, during World War I. The Ghaub Caves and Bushman paintings are 35 kilometers north of Otavi, on Ghaub farm.
Since 1905, the town of Tsumeb, which serves as the northern gateway, has been inextricably connected to the mining industry. Tsumeb’s history is represented in the Tsumeb museum, which also houses a large collection of rare minerals. A series of restored canons and other armaments that were dumped into Lake Otjikoto by German forces are on display in the Khorab room. The lake is surrounded by many legends, one of which claims that Otjikoto and its sister lake Guinas are bottomless. Otjikoto, which resembles an upside-down mushroom, was created when the roof of a massive dolomite cave collapsed. A unusual, mouth-breeding species of fish has been discovered in the lake’s depths, and stalactite samples taken from an underwater cave have been estimated to be about 80 000 years old.
Check-in to your lodge and relax in your beautiful African surroundings, or travel the short distance to the Park Entrance and enjoy an afternoon of game watching in the popular Etosha National Park. Return to your lodging outside the Park in the late afternoon; keep in mind that the gates close at sunset.
The Etosha National Park is one of Africa’s largest parks, covering 22 270 square kilometers of saline desert, savannah, and woodlands. The Etosha Pan, a large, shallow depression covering approximately 5000 square kilometers, is its defining feature. The pan is a desolate expanse of white broken mud that shimmers with mirages on most days for the majority of the year. The Etosha experience is unlike any other, with huge herds of game and the eerie “great white place of dry water” as a backdrop. The park is home to 114 mammal species, including some uncommon and endangered species like black rhino and black-faced impala. The park is home to a variety of bird species, including the European bee-eater and many wader species, around a third of which are migratory.
The third day is yours to do as you want. Your lodge offers a variety of exciting events as well as relaxing poolside. Alternatively, spend more time in Etosha National Park from your safari car, watching a variety of animals and birds, or stop at one of the Park Resorts for refreshments/a swim/to relax at the waterhole and see the wildlife that comes to drink.

Today, your safari will return to Windhoek along the same route it took to Etosha, where you will check into your hotel for your final night in Namibia. Before your flight, take advantage of the afternoon and even the following morning to do some last-minute souvenir shopping or visit some of the city’s attractions, such as the Tintin Palast (House of Parliament) and the beautiful Christus Church.

The Transfer Service of the Rental Vehicle Company will pick you up from your hotel and transport you to the Hosea Kutako International Airport after you return the rental vehicle to the depot. Check-in for your next flight out of Nambia and say your goodbyes to the nation.

• Fines due to breaking traffic laws and regulations during the hire period are the responsibility of the driver of the vehicle. In the event of a fine being received, there will be an administration charge.

• The minimum legal age to drive a vehicle in Namibia is 18 years of age.
• All drivers must have a valid Interational driver’s license which must be in English.
• Accident/theft of the vehicle must be notified within 24 hours of the incident.
• If the customer returns the vehicle earlier than the agreed upon drop-off date stated in the rental contract, the rental company will not refund the customer for any unused days.

• For self-guided visits, entrance fees for both persons and vehicle are payable directly at the gate/front desk of each Park or attraction.

We operate from hazyview and will collect you from any of the lovely holiday resorts, lodges or nearby locations. our vehicles depart at different times in different seasons… for full day or morning safaris, we leave at 5am in october to march and at 5h30am in april to september. for afternoon safaris, we leave at 13h00 pm in the afternoons. most of the wildlife in the park prefers hiding in the shade during the hot afternoons, so we highly recommend joining us for the earlier safaris to get the most out of your trip.
Anything to do with the word “game” whilst on a safari—like game drives or looking for game—all refers to wild animals in safari context. you might also encounter “game” on the menus of some traditional restaurants, which basically means that you’re ordering wild buck meat, or even warthog.
Even though the knp falls in a malaria area, most foreigners are pleasantly surprised at how few mosquitoes are actually encountered whilst on a safari. these mosquitoes breed in water, and even in the middle of our rainy season in december, we don’t consider them to be a relentless menace. despite what you might have been told, mosquitoes are not a plague in the knp and although we are always cautious about malaria, the locals in and around the knp do not run around with repellents all the time.
If you’re really worried and consider yourself or anyone joining you on the safari to be particularly susceptible to this rare disease, be sure to consult your gp. there are many places in the park where you can buy mosquito repellent containing deet—this is the most vital ingredient in insect repellents as it has been proven to repel the malaria-carrying mosquitoes effectively.
Even though the kruger park is basically a giant protected bushveld and sparsely populated, there are many little “towns” and camps where you can find anything from grocery stores, souvenir stores, petrol stations and much more.
As mentioned before, there are many places in the knp where we can stop over for lunch where you can buy take-away food or choose to have a meal at the various restaurants. we usually have lunch at skukuza, but this is not set in stone.
Two words: comfortable and practical. seeing as you’re going to be driving around for the majority of the time on your safari experience, it is advisable that you wear clothes that are not too tight and not too hot. winters can be cold, so check the forecast beforehand, but summers are the opposite—just take a jacket with you in case it gets chilly, and stay away from high heels, ladies! we might stop on top of rocky mountains to give you an in-person taste of the spectacular views in the knp. trust me, it’s spine-chilling raw beauty.
You’ll be surprised at the true meaning of this term—it actually refers to the five most feared animals in the bush. they are extremely dangerous to hunt on foot and also rather rare. the big 5 consists of african lions, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. it really is a tourist attraction and many safari companies utilise this term as a major marketing strategy.
We cannot guarantee that there will be sightings of all five animals in the big 5, but we can guarantee that we will do our best to find them. elephants are massive, this is true, but in the lush untouched bushveld of the kruger, if they don’t want to be seen, they can easily disappear behind the trees mere meters away from you. they tend not to be too shy, unlike leopards. rhinos are extremely scarce, but our guides know where their usual grazing spots are, and a pride of lions would attract so much attention that our radios would notify us if there’s a sighting nearby. nevertheless, you are guaranteed to see a very diverse variety of animals in the kruger national park.
Children under 8 are more than welcome on privately hired open vehicles, yes. this is purely out of consideration for our other clients who do not have children and might not have the patience for their unique outlook and excitement about each wild animal we encounter. all children under 12 have discounted safari rates, as well as half-price conservation fees to enter the kruger national park.

I cannot even begin to list the most amazing experiences we’ve had whilst on safaris in the knp! there are too many to count, each encounter very different but equally remarkable. if you consider the size of the knp and how many animals call it their home, you can only begin to imagine the things we’ve seen—from a ride of lionesses to the birth of a brand-new baby giraffe. each time our jaws drop at the splendour of mother nature. you will have to come and see it for yourself.
Placing yourself in the middle of a nature reserve where there are numerous predators and dangerous animals could sound pretty intimidating, but rest assured, kurt safari guides all have in-depth knowledge about the behaviour of these animals and would never put your life in danger. elephants can be aggressive if they have young ones to protect and even lone elephant bulls have charged at cars that don’t know when to back away, but obtaining injuries from wild animals whilst on a safari is very rare and you need not be worried—just enjoy the ride.
