While a morning game drive is considered the best time of the day to visit the Kruger National Park, an afternoon for those wanting to just enjoy some time in the African bushveld is perfect. There is far more to Kruger then just predators, and an afternoon safari offers time to enjoy Plains game like Zebra, Giraffe, Elephant, Impala, and as the day cools the chances of seeing predators also increases.

Nachmittag

While most animals take a break from the blazing midday sun, we head straight for the most promising areas, increasing your chances of seeing something interesting.

The afternoon heat drives wildlife toward water, so we often stop at rivers and dams where we might see elephant herds splash about, buffalo wallow in the mud, and antelope gather for a drink. Few sights compare to watching elephants cooling off with joyful, noisy sprays of water.

As the sun begins to dip and the temperatures ease, the bush comes alive again.

Late afternoon is often prime time for seeing wildlife and this time of the day will give you some of the day’s best opportunities to spot predators and plains game emerging from the shade.

Because the afternoons can be warm, sometimes surprisingly so, even in winter, we recommend packing sun cream, a hat, sunglasses, and comfortable shoes.

If you’re joining us in winter, bring something warm to wear for the return trip. In summer, you’ll want to pack a lightweight rain jacket for those sudden afternoon showers.

During your afternoon Kruger Park safari, your guide will stop restroom breaks, a refreshing drink, or some curio shopping. These stops will be short as we prioritise giving our guests plenty of time in the park.
Sie verlassen den Park kurz vor Torschluss und kehren zu Ihrer Lodge zurück, um sich nach einem tollen Nachmittag zu entspannen.

Privatfahrzeug Afternoon Safaris FAQs

What makes a private afternoon safari in the Kruger National Park special?

A private afternoon safari allows guests to explore the park during one of the most rewarding wildlife-viewing times of the day. As the heat fades and animals become active again, sightings of elephants, buffalo, antelope, and even predators increase, especially near rivers and dams.

The safari runs for 5 to 6 hours, beginning in the afternoon and ending just before the Kruger National Park gates close.

Each vehicle accommodates 2 to 10 guests, ensuring an intimate and personal wildlife experience. The tour requires a minimum of two travellers to operate.

Because afternoons can be hot, guests should bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and comfortable shoes. Winter travellers should pack something warm for the evening return, while summer visitors should carry a light rain jacket for sudden showers.

The package includes an open safari vehicle, a qualified guide, fuel, and mineral water. Conservation fees, meals, beverages, personal items, and gratuities are not included.
