Morgen

A morning safari starts early. During the winter months, the sun has barely risen before the safari begins. We collect our safari clients from their lodgings in Hazyview, between 5:15 and 5:30 Am, while those travelling from further away can either meet us at Perry’s Bridge Trading Post & Tourism Centre, or at either Numbi or Phabeni Gate.

The mornings are some of the most magical times in the Kruger National Park. The cooler weather has the wildlife a lot more active, and it is not unusual to see all sorts of predators including Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, Hyena and Wild Dogs.

We enter the Kruger, just as the gates open for the day, For the next few hours, we tour some of the most popular areas in the Southern Kruger, stopping at lookout points and watering holes, in search of wildlife. In a single morning, guests can see plenty of animals including lion, elephant, impala, and giraffe, as well as some nocturnal animals.

Guests will enjoy their pre-packed breakfasts at a local picnic area. Guides will make regular stops so guests can stretch their legs.

The tour will continue until 11:30, when guests will be returned to the lodge and continue with their day, leaving the park with incredible memories.

Gemeinsame Morning Safaris FAQs

Why are safaris better in the morning?

Morning safaris are often considered the best because wildlife is most active during the cooler early hours. Predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and wild dogs are more likely to be on the move before the heat sets in. Morning light will also give you excellent visibility and photography conditions, making it an ideal time for game viewing in the Kruger National Park.

The Kruger National Park gate opening times vary by season, but morning safaris typically begin right as the gates open, around sunrise. During summer, gates open earlier, usually around 05:30, and in winter they open a bit later, at 6:00. For updated gate times for Numbi Gate, Phabeni Gate or other entry points, check out the SANParks website.

Both will give you great experiences, but morning safaris generally provide higher chances of seeing predators and active wildlife, thanks to the cooler temperatures. Afternoon safaris are also rewarding, especially for sunsets and sightings near waterholes, but mornings remain the top choice for travellers who want the best overall wildlife activity.

A typical morning safari lasts 6–7 hours, starting between 05:30 and 06:00. This includes time for wildlife viewing, comfort breaks, and a stop at a picnic site where guests can enjoy a pre-packed breakfast before returning to their lodge around 11:30.

Most morning safaris departing from Hazyview include open 4×4 game drive access, a pre-packed breakfast, mineral water, conservation or entry fees (depending on nationality), and return transfers from lodges within a 5 km radius or from Perry’s Bridge. The tour is guided by expert safari guides who explore the wildlife-rich southern region of the Kruger National Park.
