As the sun begins to sink, the bush comes alive with golden light, perfect for photography and spotting animals preparing for the night. Once darkness settles, your guide switches to a spotlight, revealing the secret world of nocturnal wildlife. This is when elusive creatures such as civets, genets, porcupines, hyenas, and even big cats become more active.
In winter, the earlier sunset allows extra time for stargazing beneath the clear African sky, while summer guests enjoy long, colourful twilight scenes and warm evening air. We return to the lodge at around 20:00, where a hearty dinner and a peaceful night’s rest await.

We start our safaris just before the sun rises. This is the best time of the day to travel to the park, and your guide will know just where to find the wildlife you’ve come to see, including the Big 5 and plains game. Early morning safaris are also the ideal time of the day to see predators.
The lodge will arrange breakfast packs, and your guide will stop after about 3 hours of driving for breakfast, a bathroom break and a chance to get coffee. We then continue the safari. The beautiful Kruger is home to a wide variety of eco zones and in each one, there are all sorts of interesting wildlife to see. During our drive we will visit rivers and watering holes as well as plains and Bushveld regions, all the areas that are best known for wildlife sightings.

The road winds upward nearly 1 000 metres into the Northern Drakensberg, where the air turns cooler and mist or light rain is common, adding atmosphere to the scenery.
You’ll spend the day exploring the standout attractions of the Panorama Route, which include the otherworldly views of God’s Window, the dramatic rock formations of Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the majestic Blyde River Canyon, known as the world’s third largest and the only major “green” canyon. Along the way, you’ll also visit Lisbon Falls, the famous Three Rondavels, and the town of Graskop.
Lunch and curio shopping take place in Graskop, best known for its irresistible pancakes and friendly local shops. After exploring, the group returns to the lodge around 16:00 to unwind, enjoy a refreshing swim or a drink, and settle in for dinner before the early rise for the final Kruger Park morning safari.

Kurt Safari is a well-established safari company based in Hazyview, South Africa, which specialises in delivering the best wildlife safaris in the Kruger National Park. Our company is SATSA-accredited, fully insured, and has earned a top-rating on Tripadvisor thanks to our team of expert local guides, modern open-safari vehicles and all-inclusive packages covering accommodation, transfers, meals, and conservation fees.
A Kruger and Panorama Route safari includes guided game drives in the Kruger National Park and a full-day tour of the Panorama Route’s top attractions, such as God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Blyde River Canyon, Lisbon Falls, and the Three Rondavels. Most packages, like this 4-day tour, also include luxury accommodation, meals, conservation fees, transfers, and professionally guided safaris.
A minimum of 4 days is ideal to properly experience both regions. This allows time for multiple game drives in the Kruger, a full day exploring the dramatic scenery of the Panorama Route, and enough travel time from Johannesburg without feeling rushed.
The best time to visit is April to November, during the dry season. The Kruger will give you excellent wildlife visibility, and the Panorama Route, situated in the Drakensberg escarpment, has cooler, clearer conditions perfect for sightseeing at iconic lookouts.
No. The Panorama Route is easily accessible and suitable for all fitness levels. Most attractions, including God’s Window and Bourke’s Luck Potholes, are designed to have short walking paths, scenic viewpoints, and well-maintained facilities. The tour is conducted in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle.
A private guided safari will give you exclusive attention from your guide, personalised route planning, more flexibility with timing, and deeper wildlife interpretation. This enhances your chances of spotting the Big 5 and makes the experience more immersive than a typical shared safari drive.
