With the parks various museums, guests can read snippets from ranger notes. These are taken from the Wardens Notes of January 1936.<\/p>\n<h2>Headquarters<\/h2>\n<p>The drought continued until the middle of January and then the rain set in.\u00a0 The roads in the north and south east were impassable as the rivers swell.\u00a0 The condition of the game in the area improved with the coming of the rain.\u00a0 On the Lower Sabie the impala had a bad lambing season.\u00a0 Very few young animals. There have been no more buffalo deaths since the rain, but the buffalo have moved away since the rain.\u00a0 100 yards from the causeway, a leopard reared her cub in the reeds and bush.\u00a0 She was often seen in full view.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Lion kill \u2013 1 kudu, 1 zebra<\/li>\n<li>Leopard kill \u2013 6 impala, 1 duiker<\/li>\n<li>Cheetah kill \u2013 2 impala<\/li>\n<li>Wild dogs kill \u2013 2 impala<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kurtsafari.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/DSC_0998-800x532-1.webp\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Section One<\/h2>\n<p>After the 17 January had heavy rain.\u00a0 Several arrests made for poaching, one poaching party killed a wildebeest. One poacher was a 5<sup>th<\/sup> time offender. The ring leader was arrested along with his hunting party by the field ranger. Other arrests were made for killing a waterbuck and other small animals.\u00a0\u00a0 A case was made against the owner of cattle who allowed his cattle to graze in the park.\u00a0 Dogs found hunting in the park were killed.<\/p>\n<p>A ranger inspecting the Entumene Dam, walked in 21 lion on the 9<sup>th<\/sup> January.\u00a0 The lion were sleeping and jumped up around him, the ranger was unarmed but when he saw them he stood still and thankfully they did not attack him.\u00a0 The young animals are in a poor condition.\u00a0 A grave was found between Pretorius Kop and Hippo Pool.\u00a0 No headstone.\u00a0 Wildebeest calves less than most years.\u00a0 Section lorry traded for 2 ton V8 Ford.\u00a0 No locusts.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Regulatory Kills \u2013 1 Wildebeest<\/li>\n<li>Lion Kill \u2013 14 Wildebeest, 2 Zebra, 2 waterbuck<\/li>\n<li>Poaches Kill \u2013 1 Wildebeest, 2 Waterbuck, 1 Baboon<\/li>\n<li>Miscellaneous kills \u2013 1 Wildebeest<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kurtsafari.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/unnamed.webp\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kurtsafari.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Rhinos.webp\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Section Two<\/h2>\n<p>From the 17<sup>th<\/sup> January, heavy rain making rivers impassable, even by pontoon.\u00a0 Crossing washed out and roads severely damaged.\u00a0 Making of bricks to complete building at Malelane stopped due to heavy rains.\u00a0 Some unbaked bricked damaged by rain.\u00a0 Still awaiting parts to fix grader, worked stopped for six weeks due to broken grader.\u00a0 Made use of tractor and trailer to bring necessary materials to rest camp.<\/p>\n<p>Young lion attacked a ranger\u2019s bull, but the bull escaped, all in the daytime while the animals were grazing.\u00a0 Ranger now making lion proof kraal.\u00a0 While the buffalo moved away from the river after the rains, zebra and wildebeest have moved in to Malelane area.\u00a0 No locusts.\u00a0 Veld conditions improved since rain, animals improving.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Regulatory kills \u2013 1 Wildebeest, 1 impala<\/li>\n<li>Lion Kills \u2013 2 Buffalo, 3 Zebra, 1 Waterbuck, 8 Wildebeest, 3 Kudu; 2 Impala<\/li>\n<li>Leopard Kills \u2013 1 Impala, 1 Warthog<\/li>\n<li>Wild Dog Kills \u2013 5 Impala, 2 Kudu<\/li>\n<li>Jackal Kills \u2013 1 Impala<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kurtsafari.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Kurger-rain-Marijke-Arends-Meiring-1.webp\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Section Three<\/h2>\n<p>After the 13<sup>th<\/sup> heavy rains, storms continued till month end.\u00a0 \u00a0Crocodile River in flood.\u00a0 Drifts and roads damaged.\u00a0 Rangers office and outbuildings thatched.\u00a0 On the 7<sup>th<\/sup>, two poaches and 7 dogs were captured.\u00a0 Rangers helped a trespasser that was tossed by a buffalo.\u00a0 Headman Ntambo died, old age.\u00a0 Small swarm of locusts.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Regulatory Kills \u2013 2 Wildebeest<\/li>\n<li>Lion Kills \u2013 4 Buffalo, 4 Wildebeest, 1 Kudu<\/li>\n<li>Poachers Kill \u2013 1 Cane Rat<\/li>\n<li>Train Kill \u2013 4 Impala (Herd ran into it)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>When enjoying a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kurtsafari.com\/uk\/\">Kruger Park safari<\/a>, be sure to visit the museums when stopping at any of the main camps.<\/h3>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The James Stevenson-Hamilton reports on from the different warden sections.
