The Kruger National Park is one of the worlds’ leading nature reserves and on a 5-day safari we spend a lot of time exploring the Park. Most operators only do 3-hour morning and afternoon drives, but the KNP is vast and Kurt Safari was one of the first operators to introduce full-day safaris on our 5-day safari tours. This gives clients a chance to see a larger part of the Kruger and different areas, compared to short 3-hour safaris which must remain close to the camps, resulting in driving the same areas on every safari. Spending a full day in the KNP can sound tiring, but the guides stop regularly at rest camps and lookout points. The extended time increases the chances of seeing more wildlife as we traverse different grasslands and ecological zones.
90% of our clients on 5-day safaris encounter all the Big 5.
Kurt safari makes use of accommodation just outside the KNP in Hazyview, privately owned with quality service; breakfast & dinners included.
Please note: We collect clients from the surrounding lodges (within a 5km radius) between 6 – 6:30 AM, then we collect clients from the OR Tambo International Airport shuttle/bus terminal (Johannesburg) between 6:45 – 7:30 AM. Please call our office the day before to confirm pickup time.
NB: Clients staying in Sandton can take the Gautrain or Uber to the airport.
Private transfers Johannesburg to Kruger (Hazyview)
Please note that there are also private transfers available between Johannesburg and Kruger at R 4 900 per vehicle, one way, for up to 7 clients. The rate per person for the safari tour also reduces by R 800 per person when booking a private transfer.
We prefer the lodges and hotels outside of the Kruger Park as there is a bigger variety of accommodation and it’s only a 10-minute drive to the nearest entry gate. All the accommodation venues are privately owned.
We cannot take children under 8 on shared safaris but please request a quote on private safaris.
Clients flying out of OR TAMBO on last day to please not book flights earlier than 20:00 pm for domestic flights and 21:00 pm for international flights as one cannot always guarantee on-time arrival at OR Tambo International airport.
Clients should arrive the day before their tour starts to avoid missing the shuttle to KNP, as this vehicle is not private and cannot be delayed.
After collecting clients from their lodge near or at the OR Tambo International airport shuttle/bus terminal, we travel directly East, towards Hazyview, the Gateway to the Kruger National Park. The route takes us from the Johannesburg Highveld through the picturesque valleys of the Mpumalanga Lowveld. We arrive at the lodge in Hazyview between 11 AM & 12 PM; clients check into the lodge, have some lunch and then depart at 2 PM for an afternoon safari with your ranger. We only exit the park again at gate closing times – just before sunset. Clients enjoy dinner at the lodge before retiring to bed.
NB: Please see a selection of accommodation lodges and hotels near the Skukuza Airport or OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg; most lodges offer free transfers to the bus shuttle terminal…
Our safari starts very early, before sunrise, to the Kruger National Park in our quality open safari vehicles. We enter the park at one of the best wildlife areas; here you will spend the day on a safari with your ranger and we will visit various water holes, lookout points & rivers. We have our breakfast, which will be packed by the lodge, at a local rest camp/picnic venue and then continue our safari looking for the mighty Big 5, not missing out on over 100 mammal & 500 bird species – your ranger will ensure the very best experience & stop at a local rest camp for lunch where there is a great menu, then we continue with our safari. We return to the lodge late afternoon (between 3:30 & 4 PM) after a great day on safari. You can then relax and even jump into the swimming pool before we have dinner at and get to bed early again before the next day’s Panorama Tour.
Today we awake slightly later and after a hearty breakfast at the lodge, we make our way in an air-conditioned closed vehicle towards the famous Panorama Route at about 9 AM. We will visit the world’s third largest canyon – the Blyde River Canyon – as well as the Three Rondavels, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, found in the Blyde River, and a small town called Graskop, where we will have lunch and do some souvenir shopping. We also visit the breathtaking God’s Window, as well as Lisbon falls. It is meant to be an unforgettable, yet relaxed day. We return to the lodge at about 4 – 5 PM for some leisure time, a swim, and time to rest after the past few exciting days. We have dinner and get to bed for the next day’s animal sightings in the Park.
Today we depart before sunrise, Hazyview’ is situated close to 2 entry gates to Kruger; this gives you the opportunity to see different areas of the Kruger Park and the guide will focus on finding different wildlife that might have alluded you on the previous safaris. We will visit various water holes, lookout points, rivers, and have our pre-packed breakfasts at a local picnic venue. After that, we will visit bird hides and look for the mighty Big 5 again. Where we stop for breakfast and lunch depends on the guide’s choice and the direction he chooses to take in the KNP on the day; seasons change, and this also changes which areas we spend more time on safari. We return to the lodge (between 3:30 & 4 PM) for a swim, relaxing and catching up on the last few days of pictures and experiences. But be sure to get to bed early, as you will have to get up before sunrise again for your final safari the next day.
We depart early again from the lodge on your last safari, entering the park as the sun rises. We will have another breakfast with the packs supplied by the lodge and continue the safari until 11 AM. Then we leave the park and return to the lodge to collect the luggage. Clients are collected by the air-conditioned closed vehicle again to return to the shuttle terminal at OR Tambo and surrounding lodges (within a 5km radius), arriving between 4 – 5 PM. There you will depart to your various lodges and hotels after a great safari experience. NB: Clients flying out of OR TAMBO on last day to please not book flights earlier than 19:00 PM for domestic flights and 20:00 PM for international flights as we cannot guarantee on-time arrival at OR Tambo International airport.
