Many guests have come to master encountering the Big 5 in the Kruger National Park and has no longer become a challenge when entering the Park. There is a group of animals in the Kruger National Park for the guests who like a real Challenge. These animals are incredibly rare to encounter in the Kruger Park and can provide a great deal of satisfaction when encountered. This unique and difficult group of animals are known as the Impossible 5 and consists of: the Aardvark, the Riverine Rabbit, the White Lion, the Pangolin, and the Cape Mountain Leopard.

The first member of the Impossible 5 is a difficult start to the challenge as Aardvarks are nocturnal animals that are very shy and solitary animals. Aardvarks feed on termite and ant mounds and these insects are mostly active at night. Aardvarks are generally found in sleeping in a burrow during the day where they are safe from predators. On very rare occasions you can spot one wandering around during the day, but the best option is to do a night drive to increase your chance of encountering this elusive animal.

Riverine Rabbit

The Riverine Rabbit is a truly difficult animal to encounter. The rabbit is one of the most endangered species in the world and is not a fast breeder, like many other rabbit species are. These rabbits have a very small distribution and often live in unprotected areas. These incredibly rare animals are also a nocturnal species and can be found in shallow scrapes in the ground during daytime. It is best to attempt looking for this animal at night while looking for the Aardvark as both are nocturnal.

White Lion

A white lion occurs when there is a genetic mutation in the DNA of a lion. White Lions have a very light and white coat and have lighter eyes than normal lions. White lions are very rare animals and can be a difficult and rare sighting. There are luckily populations of White Lions that call the Kruger Park home. Many of these lions can be found in the Timbavati are of the Kruger National Park. You may be lucky and encounter some of the lions when in the Timbavati are of the Park.
The pangolin is a very strange and unique animal. Unlike the Aardvark and the Riverine Rabbit, the Pangolin is a day time animal and is a bit more common. The Pangolin feeds on termites and ants using its long tongue to maneuver through the intricate tunnels in the colonies. These animals are rare because they are hunted to near extinction because of their scales and meat. The best time to encounter these animals is in the afternoon near sandy areas.

Cape Mountain Leopard

The Cape Mountain Leopard is a rare find into cases, The Cape Mountain Leopard can only be found in the rugged mountains of Cape Town and the fact that leopards are rare to encounter adds to the difficulty of spotting this animal. For people who are enjoying a Kruger Park Safari, they can replace the Cape Mountain Leopard with the normal Leopard.
