You enter the huge and contrasting Namib Desert region as you travel deeper into the South via road. In the early afternoon, you arrive at your spectacular location in the Namib Naukluft Park Area via Mariental, Maltah\u00f6he, and Sesriem.<\/p><p>Evening sundowners while watching the amazing Namibian desert sunset from a mountain vantage point will definitely be unforgettable. Before watching the stars rise in the sky from the private balcony of your elevated Chalet, an exclusive private meal is prepared for you in a magnificent setting. Finally, you sink into your downy white mattress and gaze out the window at the boundless vistas stretching out in front of you.<\/p><p>You will awake extremely early on Day 2 for coffee\/tea before beginning your pre-dawn trip into the sand sea of Sossusvlei. Today you have the opportunity to ascend one of the world\u2019s tallest sand dunes.<\/p><p>From here, you\u2019ll return to the Namib Naukluft Park\u2019s entrance, where you\u2019ll explore the spectacular Sesriem Canyon. If it has rained, there are always pools of refreshing water at intervals inside the canyon for the daring among you to climb down into and explore.<\/p><p>Return to the lodge in the early afternoon.<\/p><p>Day 3\u2019s morning is yours to do as you please. This was the stage for the ancient SAN people who danced about their adventures together within the glow of their evening fired, surrounded by their yellowed grass huts. These resilient hunter-gatherers etched out a living on the plains and mountains where Desert Hills Lodge rests today. The property is a mere 30km from the Entrance Gate to the Namib Naukluft Park and the fascinating Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei.<\/p><p><strong>SOSSUSVLEI<\/strong>\u00a0is a beautiful dune wonderland, with towering dunes up to 300m high surrounding a huge, dried-up pan. Dunes extend as far as the eye can see and their rich tints vary from pale apricot to vivid reds and oranges. During a good rainy season, the Tsauchab River flows into the pan and creates a heaven for water birds. Even during the dry season, Oryx, Springbok and Ostrich can be seen feeding off the sparse vegetation along the water course.<\/p><p>At the entrance to Sossusvlei lies the\u00a0<strong>SESRIEM CANYON<\/strong>, where centuries of erosion have incised a narrow gorge about 1 km in length.<\/p><p>At the foot of the gorge, which plunges down for 30m to 40m, are deep pools of water which become replenished after good rains. Sesriem derives its name from the time when early pioneers tied six lengths of rawhide thongs together to draw water from these pools.<\/p><p>Just 1.1km from the Sossusvlei parking, a gentle walk over undulating low dunes to<strong>\u00a0DEAD VLEI<\/strong>\u00a0will reveal a clay pan characterized by dark, dead camel thorn trees contrasted against the white clay bed. The pan was formed hundreds of years ago when the Tsauchab River flooded, with the abundance of water allowing Camelthorn trees to grow. However as the climate changed and the sand dunes encroached on the pan, they blocked the river from reaching the pan and the trees died. sound pretty intimidating, but rest assured, kurt safari guides all have in-depth knowledge about the behaviour of these animals and would never put your life in danger. elephants can be aggressive if they have young ones to protect and even lone elephant bulls have charged at cars that don\u2019t know when to back away, but obtaining injuries from wild animals whilst on a safari is very rare and you need not be worried\u2014just enjoy the
