Your eventful 2 day tour kicks off with an afternoon pickup from your accommodation in Cape Town or Stellenbosch.
As you leave the city behind, the surroundings begin to change from buildings to rolling hills and vineyard valleys as you make your way to the picturesque Overberg region.
Your first stop is Kayamandi Township, where you’re welcomed into a local Xhosa home for a meaningful cultural experience. You’ll sip on rooibos tea, snack on Magwinya (delicious golden-fried buns also known as Vetkoek), and dig into spicy chakalaka as you share stories with your warm and welcoming host and learn all about their culture.
You’ll then be venturing to Betty’s Bay for a wildlife experience with a big of a fancy tuxedo twist. At Stony Point Penguin Reserve, you’ll get to enjoy the humorous and downright adorable sight of African penguins waddling happily along the rocks and watch rock hyraxes lounging in the sun. This part of the trip is a real delight for animal lovers and photographers alike.
After that, your trip will carry on along the spectacular Clarence Drive, if it’s open, where every curve on the road will reveal another gasp-worthy view of the ocean and the mountains, and you’ll arrive in Hermanus just in time for a sunset stroll along its famous cliff paths. If you are travelling between the months of June and November, keep your eyes peeled for southern right whales as they often breach just offshore.
After a day of happy adventuring, you’ll settle in for the night at a stylish 4-star stay at Harbour House (Skyroom) or a similar boutique property, where you can fall asleep to the hypnotically peaceful sound of the ocean.
Travel time: ± 3 hrs / ± 150 km
After a hearty breakfast, the day begins with a visit to the incredible Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary. This ethical rescue centre is home to lions, leopards, tigers, and more, each with a survival story worth hearing. You’ll also learn about the sanctuary’s inspiring work to protect these majestic animals and the broader conservation movement behind their efforts.
Then, on your way back to Cape Town, you’ll get to choose your adventure from one of two options:
A Zipline Adventure in Elgin (optional, extra cost)
You can soar above waterfalls and canyons on an epic zipline course through the Elgin Valley. After a 4×4 ride up the mountainside, you’ll glide between 13 platforms, some as long as 320 metres, with expert guides sharing fascinating facts about the local landscape.
or
A Trip to a Local Market and a Mountain Walk
Prefer to take it slow? While the rest of the group is catching a breeze in their hair, you can visit the Elgin Railway Market, a reimagined 1940s train station brimming with artisan eats and crafts. Afterwards, you can take a relaxed hike through the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve and enjoy the quiet beauty of the mountains.
Your two-day escape wraps up with a scenic drive back to Cape Town, arriving between 5:00 and 7:00 pm, depending on traffic and your drop-off point.
